Isn't that this:Does anyone know what the piece of equipment in the nose position is?
I always assumed that under the bump would be a radar, but looking at it I can't quite make sense of the geometry, it almost looks like a V shaped mount with the opening of the V facing outwards, which isn't that consistent with a usual radar...
Isn't that this:
So it's not in the more common ball shape.
Could be a radar, but shaped that way so it can rotate in sync with the FLIR below within the space constraint..The chin mounted FLIR is so obvious and hard to miss and easily identifiable, and we've had so many pictures of it over the years, I am not referring to that no.
I said "in the nose position", and "under the bump". I even specified and described the V shaped mount...
The pictures you linked do not show what is "under the bump".
The tweet you linked in question is referring to the FLIR/navigation system, which is mounted on the chin, not in the nose.
I am talking about the thing in this position:

Could be a SAR, to augment/combine with the data from the FLIR?Yes, it certainly could be a radar, which I described in my original post.
However the seeming V shape of the array is somewhat odd and would not have to be in such a geometry if the goal was to be able to provide a standard weather/terrain following function.
What I'm asking, is does anyone have any better imagery of the sensor, or if anyone's come across any documentation, or grapevine rumours about the sensor in the nose specifically, beyond simply agreeing with the idea that "it might be a radar".
