I agree with the first sentence, the second however I think fails as Fly by wire may ease training but it’s like ABS or a digital dash in a car. It isn’t needed to teach someone to drive it makes things easier. That’s it. The limitations will still remain. They could train perhaps not as many pilots with analog but they could still train substantial numbers. The real advantages of Fly by wire are not to the stick jockeys. It’s the maintenance side atleast for choppers.Fly by wire makes the helicopter a lot easier to pilot. Given that China is going to massively expand the amount of helicopters in service and they will need to train pilots to operate them the advantage having fly by wire provides is not something you can so easily discard just like that.
you completely missed my point sir. My point is in regards to the articleAs for proposed replacements for conventional helicopters those have been worked on for decades and so far they have been a failure. The AH-56 Cheyenne for example was worked on in the late 1960s. Rigid rotor helicopters were worked on for nearly as long. China needs proper working helicopters today, not in some far distant future.
A classic Global times propaganda clickbait article claiming how “Z20 is more advanced” my point is… not that is matters much. Because this is trying to make a Z20 vs H60 comparison. A comparison which is fundamentally flawed. Flawed as in truth the “advancement” is only for a short period of time, the Z20 is still the PLA playing catch-up rather than racing ahead.
Next So? So what if it hasn’t happened YET? People spent decades before the Wright Brothers trying to fly. People spent decades before Igor Sikorsky trying to build helicopters. People spent centuries designing helicopters before they finally became a practical technology. The same for most modern common place technology we take for granted.
I use the term “tech tree” sometimes borrowing from gaming, yet it’s apt as you often times need a combination of drive, funding and a combination of technologies to take a concept from risky but interesting to practical. Yes China needs modern Helicopters today because they are playing catch up to modernize and indigenize the PLA. Yet my statement was based on time. The article targeted comparison between UH60 and Z20 trying to slant Z20 as superior in a class where in reality that doesn’t matter. Because the role as Assault helicopter dictate the speed, lift, payload and compliment of the platform. Unless you elect to change out of the helicopter and change the doctrine then it’s a comparison of equals. Or as I put it a flying pickup truck is a flying pickup truck. It really doesn’t matter the brand as they all do the same truck things. A 9x19mm parabelum pistol will fire to the same range and ballistic performance no matter if Chinese, American, Austrian, Czech, Italian or Russia. Modern or vintage.
