You see the same thing with US Army Helicopters. The scheme appears either grey, green, brown or black depending on how the image is lit. However it is a matte Olive Drab. Olive drab as a color For fabric does the same thing depending on the dyes richness you can get a very Green a flat grey, almost black or A near Khaki Color. It’s favorable for a camouflage base because of that. It blends in better to a nights sky than actual black, and when seen from above parked on a grassland can blend into soil and foliage to a degree.
Grey is also popular as it blends into overcast and can be confused for clouds.
that is why Navy ships are grey to.
black because of atmospheric conditions actually stands out more, this is why B2 and F117 are more grey than black.

No it’s a darker shade of grey. It’s not true black. In testing Black was found to stand out even vs a moonless night because of slight amounts of light reflecting back off the atmosphere.
