This is being labeled WZ-19. Looks like there are some things different if it is a Z-19. Can anyone identify what helicopters on the left.

guys this is a dumb question but is it really nessasary to wrap the whole chopper up in canvas covers? so we know they want to keep their equipment in good shape but this seems a bit too much. the PLA seems to have this canvas fetish and they wrap everything up even a whole J-10 fighter jet! those factories that make these canvas covers will never run out of business. :p

China = Acid Rain + Toxic Atmosphere = Parts/vehicles stored outside degrade

Come on, acid rain and toxic atmosphere? If it was anywhere bad enough to damage metal planes made to military specs, you think anyone would be left alive to fly those planes?

Large parts of China gets pretty bad sandstorms from time to time. The winters can also be rough with arctic temperatures and all the hail, blizzards and frost that goes with it. I think those are the main reasons for the love of tight fitting canvas covers.

Why don't they just build some hangars?

Perhaps (and this is a wild guess - seeing that it is covered in canvas) it is a more heavily armed version of the Z-19. We won't know until they unwrap it.

Another guess - those choppers seem to be Mi-17s.

They do build hangers, but hangers take up space and costs money. Not even the US has hangers for all its planes and the majority of planes spend the vast majority of thier lives parked outside.

Mi-17's are considerably wider, they do have a different shape.

No those are definitely Z-19 helicopters and they are done so dust and small particles dont go into engine intake and filters etc this is nothing new nor surprising

Did someone really mention acid rain??

C'mon, Mi-17 is far fatter, and has a front carriage instead of at the back, unlike here.
