It is indeed an IR-jammer similar to the US system used on the AH-64.

However what wonders me still is why some always / still think that this Z-10 version - often called Z-10H - should be a new one.

IMO it is quite clear to be from an earlier production batch or even pre-serial batch since this type features the old-style tail, different windows and the older targeting system known from the prototypes.

Only after the airframe was modified it reached mass-production. However again I wonder why this "old" style Z-10H is not used by a single unit but flown in several ones ?!!?

Well maybe because the old ones or the original design required better engines. For sometime it was mentioned due to under-powered engines of the newer batches had lot of weight cut. The few fully equipped Z-10 in service probably use a 1500 kW turboshafts acquired during prototype stage but now they are stuck with 1000 kW turboshafts.

No - sorry, if my reply was misleading - ... my point is why some think these aircraft with the old-style airframe are regarded the latest production version, featuring a new targeting system ?

IMO it's quite simple ... there were the few prototypes followed by several more pre-serials all featuring this "old-style" airframe, which had to be modified like You mentioned. The result was the revised version Z-10A that is now again modified or succeeded by the latest Z-10K.

In order to keep the pre-serials in service, these were modified to Z-10H standard ... still retaining their original fuselage/airframe. But why are they dispersed around several units, that's a point I do not understand. IMO it would be easier - esp. in mind of maintenance - to consolidate them into one unit.

Z10 Doesn't have a Ejection system. Without massive amounts of structural changes it cannot have one. Same is true for 99% of the world rotorcraft.

Oh, yeah I remember this was discussed before, because of what they shown in the Golden Eye 007 movie, in the scene where the armoured helo got blown up by a missile.

I don't see that many difference between Z-10A and Z-10K, other than camou patterns. New radar absorbing material on the K model?
