Locals took part with police to apprehend remaining terrorists at large. Thirty thousand locals took part in the search after terrorist suspects were sighted in a local corn field. 9 were shot dead and one remaining terrorists was apprehended. No further casualties from police.

This is good. The public needs to know that they are just as responsible for their own safety and needs to be proactive when dealing with threats. Every terrorist that rear their ugly head need to eventually be made to feel like the prey for once. The psychological effects of having the locals also against you is very different than if you were just being sought after by the authorities, especially if you were from the local area yourself - the former strikes much deeper and is more personal.

That is a solid turnout and a good demonstration by a lot of people that they do not agree with the terrorists and will work with the authorities against such senseless troublemakers... actually murderers would be more accurate.

Mopping up, nothing graphic.

Currently tally is 59 terrorists shot and 215 arrested. Innocent casualties placed at 37 dead and 13 wounded, 31 cars smashed and 6 cars burnt.

I wonder whether part of the mob was incited on the spot or just joined rioting. If so then they should be separately handled from the hardcore terrorists.

Whoa! What the heck? So was this a riot or a terrorist attack? Not enough information coming out about this. Chinese authorities really need to get their act together in terms of disseminating accurate information in a timely manner about significant events like this.

Probably a mob and Chinese police started shooting at them as they were poorly trained and don't care too much... Or maybe there was like 8-10 armed men attacking much stringer police unit and after that they ran away with police shooting at everyone? In a normal country heads would roll after such 'action' for sure... An example of how not to do things.

Just looking at the numbers of killed and wounded it seems like they were attacked by at least 2000 armed men! And looking that no policemen were wounded or killed on the police side... seems like they weren't armed or couldn't shoot well (!).

Here's a nice education resource that might help seeing as you've probably missed elementary education for reading comprehension.

Also, given your propensity for illogicality, this will probably help.

Lastly, I'd suggest getting professional psychiatric help; you're suffering from apparent inferiority complexes which might prove detrimental to your mental psyche.

37 civilians killed, 13 injured in Xinjiang terror attack

URUMQI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- A total of 37 civilians were killed and another 13 injured in a terrorist attack Monday in Shache County, Kashgar Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, authorities said Sunday.

Police gunned down 59 terrorists and arrested 215 others, the regional government said after a meeting Saturday presided by Zhang Chunxian, secretary of the regional committee of the Communist Party of China.

The case was first reported Tuesday, but no figures were given except that dozens of people died.

Among the dead were 35 Hans and two Uygurs, the government said.

Out of the 31 vehicles smashed in the violent attack, 6 were burnt.

Police confiscated long knives, axes as well as the terrorists' banners that hailed "holy war."

A gang armed with knives and axes attacked a police station and government offices in Elixku Township early Monday morning, and some moved on to the nearby Huangdi Township, attacking civilians and smashing vehicles as they passed.

The gangsters also set roadblocks on the Bachu-Shache Road and stopped vehicles passing by, before slashing passengers indiscriminately and forcing civilians to join them in the terror attack, according to police.

Investigations showed that it was an attack jointly "organized and premeditated" by terrorists both in and outside China, the government said.

The mastermind behind the attack was identified as Nuramat Sawut from Elixku Township, who had close connections with the terrorist organization East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM).

Sawut had been spreading separatism and religious extremism with audio and video materials since 2013. Through this process he developed a terrorist group and became its leader.

Since the beginning of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the group had had multiple gatherings in remote places, during which they made attack plans and prepared tools for their violent acts.

Zhang Chunxian said that the terrorists will be punished in accordance with law, and that anyone committing crimes must be brought to justice.

On Friday, police shot dead nine suspected terrorists and captured another in Hotan Prefecture, two days after extremists murdered the imam of China's largest mosque, Jume Tahir, in Xinjiang.

Shache witnessed another terror attack on December 30, 2013 when nine knife-wielding terrorists attacked a police station. They threw explosives and set police cars on fire. Police shot dead eight terrorists.

On May 22, an attack on a market in Urumqi, the regional capital, left 31 dead and 94 injured.

That is a solid turnout and a good demonstration by a lot of people that they do not agree with the terrorists and will work with the authorities against such senseless troublemakers... actually murderers would be more accurate.

The civilians have to come together to defend themselves. Otherwise, it could have been worse than the last time the terrorists targeted the civilians when hundreds of the innocent civilians died.

That's a lot of presumptions. No-name's post was lacking in information, check out Quickie's.

URUMQI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Police have shot dead two suspects and captured another in their investigation of the murder of a Chinese religious leader in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday, local public security authorities said on Thursday.

The killings and arrest happened as the suspects resisted arrest with knives and axes at noon on Wednesday, according to the authorities.

Turghun Tursun, Memetjan Remutillan and Nurmemet Abidilimit were wanted over the murder of Jume Tahir, imam of China's largest mosque, the Id Kah Mosque in the city of Kashgar.

The 74-year-old, who enjoyed a high reputation among Muslims nationwide, was killed at 6:58 a.m. on Wednesday after he finished hosting the morning ritual.

According to police, the three suspects, influenced by religious extremism, planned to "do something big" to increase their influence.

Further investigation is under way.
