But yeah, this post is not about lost lands, but that China and Russia are big countries in terms of land mass.

OK, but I realized I should've mentioned in http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/mil...-startegy-discussions-21-6728.html#post303451 within hours also France was at war -- together with most of Africa (the area of Africa is, if my memory serves me well, 30 million sq. kilometers), French Indochina (and smaller possessions all over the world) -- I'm not going to look for precise numbers, but I think September 3 is a reasonable date of the beginning of WW2
P.S. While Marine nationale was much smaller than the Royal Navy, I believe it kept a relatively strong Squadron in Dakar and Saigon on that date.

Africa is 11 million square mile, 30 million square km; yes,

I don't think it matters which day the war started on, it depends on which narrative you are biased towards. Like how the US had the senate and congress, one based on population representation, the other being land mass representation, we can look at a whole host of items like economy, population, land area, and so on. It is not wrong to put the date earlier or later till the USA joined the war.

"The German and Soviet Governments are in mutual consent that all sides would benefit from an end of the current war between Germany on one side, and the Great Britain and France on the other side. In order to achieve this goal as soon as possible, both Governments will combine their efforts if needed, while acting in agreement with their allies. If those efforts were not successful, however, it would be established as a fact that the Great Britain and France are responsible for a continuation of the war, and if this situation occurred, the German and Soviet Governments would consult the necessary measures to be taken."

Does anybody have an oficial translation? :)

Taranto under attack!

On the night of November 11, 1940, the Royal Navy launched the Operation Judgement against the Italian port of Taranto. This famous operation was the first planned attack against ships launched from aircraft carriers and was the seed aircraft to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, a year later. The following link provides a full report with photos and information about this famous military operation of WW2. I hope you enjoy it and I count on your visit.

Re: Taranto under attack!

TQ Tony. Some might not know that The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) was RN trained and influenced when it was first formed. The Japanese Admiral who successfully led the IJN fleet in the battle against the Czarist Russian Fleet in the early 1900 (or was it late 1800?) was Dartmouth (RN) trained, and a very intelligent Math graduate from UK Cambridge University. The modern JSDMF is however very much US influenced but still follows its own naval traditions.

Although with certain disabilities, the Mitsubishi G4M was one of the pillars of the Japanese Air Force, especially during the early years of WW2, collecting numerous victories in many bombing missions. The following link provides a full report with a lot of pictures and information about this amazing bomber. I hope you enjoy it and I count on your visit.

Re: The Japanese battlehorse

The US created the original naming conventions because of Japanese fighters and bombers. Like the Soviets later so little reference materials came out of Japan to give designations that pilots and early ground control needed a quick reference guide. Fighters took boys names and bombers were girls. But Betty was not the only name this bomber had, like most Japanese fighters of the time it was thin skinned and a good shot into the wind tanks earned it the nicknames One shot fighter, Zippo, flying lighter, the Cigar. The Japanese themselves had a similar string of derogatory terms virtually identical in translation. They did however have a nasty sting. Like all bombers of the time they had guns distributed over the fuselage and any pilot trying to down a betty had to keep off her six she was packing a 20mm stinger.
