It's too bad Sino-American strategic distrusts are so high as to prevent cooperation and coordination to deal with Islamist jihads all over the world. I get it, China's a greater long-term threat economically, militarily, and culturally to the US than Islamic extremists, but as the Klingon proverb says, "only fools fight in a burning house," so the two middle kingdoms should put aside their differences and fight the Islamist jihad as partners.

It simply shows that the threat is not big enough to force China and America to work together....

Remember the times they worked together to contain the USSR...yeah I would say you need at least a big rival as that of the late USSR to make the two work closely together again....

Who do you think would support banning guns in the story above? The grandpa or those three monsters?

Yeah, it's too late for the US to utterly restrict firearms, cause there will still be too many unaccounted for guns floating around.

Best they can hope for is more regulation and doing checks and profiling gun buyers.

Because the press sensationalizes such incidents.. .it is the nature of the press...and does not, therefore, paint the full picture.

But most American know that there are many, many more incidents where people protect themselves from criminals with their firearms.

Banning guns will only result in law abiding citizens abiding by such a law...that is if they can even come up with a legal method to do so. It would take a constitutional amendment to the US Constitution....which is very, very unlikely.

Criminals will continue find guns and commit crime...that's what criminals do, which means such a law will not stop them. They are already breaking the law in every incident where they rob, injure, murder, etc. with a firearm.

Anyhow, states and communities that have conceal carry, and in places like here in Idaho where we have open carry in many areas, already show that such measures helps prevent crime. A criminal will go somewhere he/she knows people are unarmed. And in cases of crimes of passion, armed people can protect themselves against someone who is deranged much better than a call to 911 can. Criminals are not going to wait for the police to arrive.

I really think that it's about the culture of the society. In China there's hardly ANY crime committed with a gun.

A knife-wielding criminal is all it takes to shock the entire country.

If your logic stands true, why don't the terrorists in Kunming or Urumqi just smuggle some guns and shoot the people instead of using knifes?

However, I agree that it's a different situation in the US. Given the enormous amount of guns already present in the US, it's difficult to get rid of all of them even if guns are banned. I understand. But to me, it's still kind of bizarre that Americans just allow this kind of gun crimes to happen each year and let almost 10,000 people(

) die and do not take actions.

10,000 people is a lot of lives lost and a lot of families suffered. The 9/11 only took away about one-third of this number of Americans' lives and the US government spent trillions of dollars for a decade to fight a war on terror.

In a single year there's about three times the number of people die from gun murder and there's no gun control laws passed.

Furthermore, look at the the other countries where guns are banned. There's no where close this amount of people died every year, regardless of means and ways they suffered the loss.

For us, non-Americans, remains the question why the situation in our own country is so very different from that in US. Many countries have much more restrictive gun laws and criminals are much less likely to use guns. In The Netherlands a big court case is now going on to try to convict the people responsible for a wave in gun crime, the killing of about a dozen important criminals in about ten years, ordered by other criminals. No members of the public were killed in these cases. In Switzerland until a short while ago people took their military guns home after their compulsory military service. This has now been changed in that the guns are to be stored in local armories, but the concern was suicides not crime. In Cuba many people have military guns to protect the country from violence from the side of US based terrorists or even invasion but we never hear about gun crime on the island.
So Jeff's argument might well be corrects but it doesn't explain why it is the way he describes.

That's why we should restrict bullets instead. Put a 1000000% tax on all bullets.

Remember this, America release dozens of Xinjiang terrorists caught training in Afganistan. The official reason given is, and I kid you not, they were only training to attack China not the US.
