Because the press sensationalizes such incidents.. .it is the nature of the press...and does not, therefore, paint the full picture.
But most American know that there are many, many more incidents where people protect themselves from criminals with their firearms.
Banning guns will only result in law abiding citizens abiding by such a law...that is if they can even come up with a legal method to do so. It would take a constitutional amendment to the US Constitution....which is very, very unlikely.
Criminals will continue find guns and commit crime...that's what criminals do, which means such a law will not stop them. They are already breaking the law in every incident where they rob, injure, murder, etc. with a firearm.
Anyhow, states and communities that have conceal carry, and in places like here in Idaho where we have open carry in many areas, already show that such measures helps prevent crime. A criminal will go somewhere he/she knows people are unarmed. And in cases of crimes of passion, armed people can protect themselves against someone who is deranged much better than a call to 911 can. Criminals are not going to wait for the police to arrive.
I really think that it's about the culture of the society. In China there's hardly ANY crime committed with a gun.
A knife-wielding criminal is all it takes to shock the entire country.
If your logic stands true, why don't the terrorists in Kunming or Urumqi just smuggle some guns and shoot the people instead of using knifes?
However, I agree that it's a different situation in the US. Given the enormous amount of guns already present in the US, it's difficult to get rid of all of them even if guns are banned. I understand. But to me, it's still kind of bizarre that Americans just allow this kind of gun crimes to happen each year and let almost 10,000 people(
) die and do not take actions.
10,000 people is a lot of lives lost and a lot of families suffered. The 9/11 only took away about one-third of this number of Americans' lives and the US government spent trillions of dollars for a decade to fight a war on terror.
In a single year there's about three times the number of people die from gun murder and there's no gun control laws passed.
Furthermore, look at the the other countries where guns are banned. There's no where close this amount of people died every year, regardless of means and ways they suffered the loss.
