Congratulations to US. They qualified for the next stage with a winner in extra time. With that 1-0 result, US actually ended up topping the table, beating England on goal difference!

Shocking refereeing though. One red card to a player who i dont think was near the incident

Yeah, a few of his team mates had earlier surrounded the referee, one of them shouting in the referee's face and might even have used the F word. - judging by his lip movement. Could be just the word "Foul", though.

England finally decided that while they were at the world cup in South Africa, they might as well start playing some football.

Overall a much better and impressive performance, but the low sore line did reflect they seeming inability to convert good opportunities into goals, which is still worrying. Especially so as they are meeting Germany on Sunday, and we don't have a particularly good record against them - I hope it avoids penalties!

Talk about drama. The defending champions are now out of the World Cup!

That disallowed goal from Italy which would have resulted in a draw, and their progression to the next stage is going to hog the head-lines...

Actually the Mahut V Isner ist round tennis had the most suspense, what a game , world record for duration over 10hrs, 68/70 5th set, couple hundred aces ?

NZ didn't make it to the next round and on that game they didnt deserve to.

The East Asian presence is further enhanced as Japan take a very convincing 3 - 1 victory over Denmark. The Japanese were on top form and looked dangerous every time they made a run into the Danish Box.

I must admit though to feeling real pangs for my Nordic brothers.

It was quite a surprising result to me. Never expected the Japanese team to be able to score 3 goals against the Danes. And I must say that the Japanese team is really good at set pieces. 2 of the 3 goals came from free kicks that the goal keeper couldn't save.

The Dutch did well too. They are now the 2nd team (after Argentina) in this World Cup to qualify for the next stage with a perfect score. 3 wins out of 3 is quite an achievement.

Will Brazil be the next team with 9 points in the group stage?
