Hey guys..check out this paint scheme on this Hornet?
What is going on? I do know that this aircraft belongs to VFA-125
from NAS Lemoore CA. It is the USN F-18 training squadron.
Pacific Ocean (March 13, 2006) - An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Rough Raiders" of Strike Fighter Squadron One Two Five (VFA-125) launches from the flight deck aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).

Atlantic Ocean (March 13, 2006) - An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Thunderbolts" of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron Two Five One (VMFA-251) makes an arrested landing on the flight deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65).

Persian Gulf (March 13, 2006) - Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Supply Department unload mail and supplies from an MH-53E Sea Dragon.

hi Popeye,

That is an interesting paint scheme. The only other similiar schmese in the US military that I know of are those of aggressor squadrons, which both the USN and USAF operate. I thought the USN only operated A-4s and F-5s in these squadrons, but perhaps the unit you mentioned, VFA-125, also has a couple of its F-18s painted for aggressor roles, as well. Also, I think it is a D-Model (two seats).

Anybody having trouble on this page with loading? I am...

The USN now calls "Top Gun".. Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center. The squadron is located at NAS Fallon NV. They moved from the former NAS Miramar CA in 1993. Here's a link.

Gone are the A-4's and F-5's ..replaced by Hornets & Tomcats! Perhaps the F-14's simulate Flankers??? I'm sure that VFA-125, The USN's F-18 training squadron, which is not that far from Fallon NV trains with NSAWC on a regular basis. Hence the desert paint scheme. Just an educated guess on my part.
