Demonstrators shout slogans during an anti-government protest in Rio de Janeiro's sister city, Niteroi, Brazil, Wednesday evening, June 19, 2013. Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo city leaders said Wednesday that they reversed an increase in bus and subway fares that ignited anti-government protests. Many people doubted the move would quiet the demonstrations which have moved well beyond outrage over the fare hikes into communal cries against poor public services. (AP Photo/Silvia Izquierdo

All these mass riotings in Brazil a yr before the World Cup and three years before the Olympics does not bode well for Brazil.

The cops are definitely corrupt in Brazil and so are the politicians.

If you have not seen Elite Squad or Elite Squad 2 I highly recommend it. Even though it is fiction, it represents Rio in a highly realistic manner with the drug gangs, dirty cops and corrupt politicians but also the 'good' guys who are the Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE).. basically their police special forces or like SWAT.

It is also very violent so definitely don't watch it if kids are around especially if you watch the uncut version.

I agree.. I think the World Cup should be moved to the US.. the US and the UK may be the only two nations that could hold the World cup on such a short notice. No lack of infrastructure, i.e. stadiums hotels travel ease, in either country.

I've seen the first Elite Squad but haven't seen the second one yet. The BOPE is not someone you want to mess with.
