Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) train with ADF

Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, Pacific Island Regiment (2 PIR) pictured training in North Queensland during Exercise Wantok Warrior, an annual infantry exchange between the PNGDF and the Australian Army. They were training with their counterparts from 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR) at Townsville Field Training Area (TFTA). The troop’s main training focus was on urban operations at Line Creek Junction, a purpose built urban training facility. This particular training scenario focussed on population protection. It was a culminating activity which tested the troops with complex challenges that included managing food aid security for the towns ‘civil’ population while fighting off hostile attacks.
