Yeah you reserve a copy of windows 10, it downloads in the background, and then you manually click it to confirm that you want to actually upgrade to windows 10.

My copy has been sitting ready for a few days now, but I think I'll wait until it's mid semester break to upgrade.

The easiest way is to do the following:

Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC. Choose the option to "keep nothing".

Through that, Windows completely reinstalls itself, "Factory fresh".

I've done this a couple times on Windows 8/8.1.
Yep...in a dire circumstance, if you have not made any other arrangements that's what you do.

But most people have a lot of data, and a lot of installed programs that they would rather not lose.

So when I get to a point where everything is working pretty well...I create a disk image of the system on a separate external drive.

This time I will have two (I have two external USB drives hooked up), one for the Windows 8.1 system before...and one for the Windows 10 system after.

That way I can always get back to that point with all the data and all the programs I had at that time.

I then do that every 8-12 weeks.

Probably a smart move.

Mine went very well...very smooth so far.

But I am in danger of knocking on wood here...so I will wait several more days to say all is well! LOL!

wife's laptop has had windows 10 for about three days. So far no problems. Still waiting for the download for the desk top.

Humm...I must have posted this in the wrong spot..sorry.

Enywho my wife just told me that windows 10 "edge" browser is NOT compatible with Norton anti-virus. Allegedly Norton is working on the problem...sure..

Still no windows 10 upload for MY desk top...I can wait.

Having trying and using many freeware antiviruses in the past, Micro$oft $ecurity E$$ential is my most favorite. In case your PC is infected by adware that MSE can't help, AdwareCleaner is my favorite tool to remove adware.

one of my laptops (DELL i5 - 8GB, 240GB SSD) been upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago, I feel it's significantly faster and all programs work very well and load a lot faster, wifi seems faster too.

The second laptop (DELL i7, 8GB, 250GB SSD) upgraded successfully but failed to connect the internet, both WiFi and LAN (I had created a partition image as well, just in case). WiFi and LAN chipsets are from Intel and the latest drivers installed already.
I was panicking and did some research and found that Microsoft will allow you to rollback your Windows 10 installation to the previous operating system for 30 days post-upgrade. I did that, and now I have to think twice whether I would upgrade my main desktop (i7, 24GB, 240GB & 120GB SSD and 3TB HDD) to Windows 10 (from Win 7 Prof)

I love Windows XP too, I have Windows XP mode running on my Win 7 Prof, so basically I can run a few programs on Win XP mode that wouldn't run on Win 7. And Win XP mode is free from Microsoft for Win 7 Prof and Ultimate. Window 10 doesn't support Win XP mode any more :(.... so I will have to think again whether I am ready to lose Win XP mode :)

Upgraded on Day 1, so far there are only minor hickups, though one thing I would really want to know:

Now, how come within the same workgroup, some PC can totally read my shared drive, while others either doesn't or only detect the content in pre-Win10 list version?

Also, I noticed that on Office 365, the Outlook couldn't send out mail on the POP3 account (keep saying network not available), but I can receive mail of that same account, plus sync with other IMAP accounts?

My anti-virus programme is Kaspersky Internet Security, it handles my firewall and even after I shut the firewall down, those problems don't go away either.

Now, those are my work PC.

Home PC wise, most game works, if there's problem with Steam platform, just vertify the integreity of the local cache and it solves the issues.
