Just to wrap up the story, he finally made it home:
Madhya Pradesh where he has lived since 1969

He has been granted a one-year visa by India, relatives said, which would allow him to return to his home in Madhya Pradesh.

China has unusually given his son Vishnu and his family a two year visa that is rarely granted to foreign citizens, underlining the significance Beijing has attached to the case.
I am late to this story. But it still "shocks" me that India issued a ONE year visa (instead of a permenant residency) to him since he has been prevented (not to deport) to return to China since 1969. Will India then charge him of illegally stayed in India from 1969 to 2016? That worth the title "what the heck".

About China granting Vishnu and his family two year visa, it is rare (for a foreign citizen) but not surprising (for a Chinese relative eligible for Chinese citizenship) at all. After all he is the direct relative to a Chinese citizen, he and his family has the right to claim Chinese citizenship if they choose to do so and will be certainly granted, after all they are Wang (王).

In the same vein, I was just about to post this article:

TLDR: 60-year-old guy who came to Canada as a baby is getting deported to Netherland.

Truly WTH material. Can you imagine having lived in a country your entire life, and suddenly being told that you are being deported to a country you've never been to? At 60 years old?

Obviously there's something really screwed up with this guy, what with his 40 criminal convictions, but there are a lot worse in the Canadian justice system. This is one of those cases where following the letter of the law results in WTH.

letter of the law sucks some times.

Another case is people made stateless because they fall in the legal no-man's land. One reported case is Rachel Chandler who was born in Beijing to a Canadian father and Chinese mother. She could not acquire Canadian citizenship due to the revised 2009 law of Canada that her father could not pass the citizenship to her because she was born abroad. She could not acquire Chinese citizenship from her mother side because at her birth her parents were not married. Luckily she got Irish citizenship because her grandparent is Irish and Irish law still grant citizenship through that path. However, all the trouble could have been avoided if her parents were aware of the laws. They can either get married before giving birth, or give birth in Canada.

Hmmm... that doesn't sound right.

For the Canadian part, it's possible, although that would mean her father is a naturalized Canadian citizen, ostensibly from Ireland? Which would make her father an Irish citizen as well, since Ireland and Canada both have dual citizenship. If her father had been born a Canadian citizen, she should have been granted citizenship, even if born abroad.

For the Chinese part, it makes even less sense. Why would she not be able to gain Chinese citizenship if she was born to a Chinese citizen on Chinese soil? Why would the citizenship of her father matter? *Especially* if they weren't married?

Her case is not unique, there is another case regarding Canadians permanently reside abroad.
On the Canadian part, the central problem is the revised 2009 law which removed that possibility. According to the new rule, she must be born in Canada if her Canadian parent resides abroad.

On the Chinese part, (now I am speculating as I did not read any law). The key may be that a Child has the claim ONLY through a Chinese citizen in a legitimate marriage, nothing else. So "not married" is the blocking stone. The father's citizenship did not play any role.

Bill C-37, which attempted to address the original phenomenon, included a provision that natural-born Canadian citizens who were born outside Canada could not pass citizenship to their children born outside the country. This in turn has led to the potential creation of a new group of "Lost Canadians", with one notable example being Rachel Chandler, born in China to a Libya-born son of Canadian parents and a Chinese woman.

As of early Friday morning, a new political book remained perched at the top of Amazon’s bestseller list: “

,” by Daily Wire managing editor Michael J. Knowles.

The book, published Feb. 8, is described as the “most exhaustively researched and coherently argued Democrat Party apologia to date” and “a political treatise sure to stand the test of time.”

Its cover is a stately white and features the image of a donkey colored by the American flag. An endorsement by Daily Wire editor in chief Ben Shapiro calls the book “thorough.”

“If Democrats copied and pasted the contents of this book into their national platform they could become unstoppable,” read one user review. “Exhaustive, yet concise, treatment of the reasons to vote for Democrats. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it as a teaching tool for any potential voter. This book is truly unparalleled,” read another.

“Riveting from cover to cover,” read a third.

A peek inside finds a quote from Thucydides, and a table of contents with such lofty chapters as “Foreign Policy,” “Civil Rights” and “Homeland Security.”

What follows next are roughly 260 blank pages, save for the book’s title printed atop each. The list price is $9.99.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Daily Wire, after all, is a deeply conservative website, featuring articles such as “Illegal Immigrant Charged With Beheading Own Mother With Butcher Knife” and “The ‘Trump Is A Russian Plant!’ Case Is Falling Apart. Here Are 4 Things You Need To Know.”

On Thursday, Knowles appeared on “Fox & Friends” and said: “What’s really great about this book, you can go cover-to-cover in about 15, 20 seconds.”

“It took a very long time to research this book,” he said. “I’ve been observing the Democratic Party for at least 10 years now and when I observed their record and reasons to vote for them — on reasons of economics or foreign policy or homeland security or civil rights and so on — I realized it was probably best to just leave all the pages blank.”

“When I started researching the book and going through this exhaustive study process, at first I turned to the 2012 Democratic National Convention, and it turned out they were deciding whether or not to include God in their party platform,” Knowles said. “And the Democrats booed God. That’s not good. So I decided probably if I’m going to make a good case to vote for Democrats, probably just leave that chapter blank.”

During the vote, boos can be heard, which led conservative news outlets such as Fox to run headlines such as “

.”

Although it might be a novelty item, the book seems to be flying off the shelves.

Not wanting to miss out on the action, the Democrats appear to have responded with a missive of their own. “

You can guess what’s inside.
