Marvel Comics announced that their male hero of yore was no longer worthy to hold the mighty hammer Mjölnir.

"The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription," said Marvel editor Wil Moss in a statement. "The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

Wait, there’s more.

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR,” said writer Jason Aaron. “This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before."

Thor will be Marvel’s eighth comic featuring a female in its leading role, which the publisher says “aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for Super Hero comic books in America: women and girls.”

Look I am alright with Cap getting the change or Wolverine or most of the Superheros but Thor is a exception, And it's not because I have a effinity for the guy it's the Source Material. Thor is THOR, Odin's Son.

Then Again perhaps I am a bit of a Hypocrite on this one as I am a Fan of Type-Moon which has it's own take on "King" Arthur.

What I've heard is they just didn't change Thor from a man to woman. The man that was Thor lost the hammer to someone who is more worthy where it happens here to be a woman. I haven't read the comics so I don't know what is what. What I also heard was the person who carries the hammer is called Thor.

Thor is Thor. If you take the staff From Sun Wukong Does that make you the Monkey King? They took The Myth Of Thor and made the modern take Thor. Like I said I might be a hypocrite on this but it just seems wrong to make a new Thor like this. I could go along with it if the character was setup like this but Thor is a God.

Totally agreed. They can make whatever change they want on an original character, but leave characters that are taken from real-world Mythology alone!
