An Egyptian military court made a mistake by sentencing a four-year-old boy to life in prison for murder last week, the military has acknowledged.

Spokesman Col Mohammed Samir said the court should have sentenced a 16-year-old with a similar name instead.

Ahmed Mansour Qurani Ali was convicted along with 115 others in connection with riots by Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Fayoum province in 2014.

His lawyer had submitted documents proving that he was one at the time.

(in Arabic), Col Samir said Ahmed Mansour Qurani Sharara, 16, should have been sentenced and not Ahmed Mansour Qurani Ali.

It not clear what will now happen to the four year old.

The child's lawyer said his name had been added to the list of suspects by mistake - and that court officials had not passed his birth certificate to the judge to prove his age at the time of the offence.

He was subsequently convicted of four counts of murder, eight counts of attempted murder and vandalising government property.

Egypt's judicial system has come under repeated criticism since the military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi in 2013, following mass protests.

Since then, more than 1,000 people have been killed and 40,000 are believed to have been jailed in a sweeping crackdown on dissent.

Most of them have been supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, but secular activists have also been prosecuted for breaking an anti-protest law.

In 2014, the UN warned that Egypt had "a judicial system where international fair trial guarantees appear to be increasingly trampled upon" after more than 1,200 people were sentenced to death in two mass trials "rife with procedural irregularities".

There are no words beyond WTF?

Not that I think this will happen anytime soon, it's a pretty funny scenario to think about:

- Google, Apple, Facebook, etc. would no longer be American companies, they'd be Californian
- Apple won't need to crack its own iPhone
- Hollywood movies would become foreign films in the US
- Arnold Schwarzenegger could finally run for President (of California)

I just heard a local radio talk show with experts in the industry talk about the Apple situation with the FBI. It's not just the FBI that will obtain Apple information. Any defense in a case the FBI uses from what they get from Apple will have the right to access secret technology to verify it. Which they will use independent industry experts who will then possess knowledge Apple doesn't want out. Who's to stop these independent experts from being hired by Apple's rivals for what they know?

There is so much on that Apple case that boggles the mind.
First, If the Way the FBI is issuing the order they are using a Act From 1789!! They are using a Benjamin Franklin Era Law to Access data in the Steve Jobs era.
next what they want to do is bigger then one phone. They want to install a IOS update that would bypass a measure to prevent brute force access. As is If someone tries to access the phone with the wrong pin more then 10 times the phone self destructs ( Minus any explosive effects...). With this "Update" The IOS would be open to unlimited attacks Or War Dialing where in every permutation is tried and eventually the Phone is opened by force. What this opens is the Fear that the FBI could now install this update remotely and hack your Iphone with out need to consult.
Now I am sure we are about to hear about the wonders of Back doors supposedly installed by the NSA and CIA. that were Spoken of by Snowden, But Apple Upgraded and installed the 10 Fail system after his revelations.
So The FBI has a reason... Nope. They have another option.
Rather than the Update Plan they attack the CPU directly.

But it's still the law right? If it's outdated then have the Congress amend it. It can't be that hard right? For it ain't the Constitution component or as touchy as the 2nd Amendment.

Makes you wonder that once they've set a precedence with Apple whether they will try the same with Android, which is used by many foreign phone manufacturers. Or is Google already no longer "don't be evil"...?
"Don't be evil" is a pretty piece but ultimately, when pit between shareholders' interest and such arbitary matter, you should know which one capitalism tilt towards to....even Google is seeking to re-enter China after that "dramatic exit" a few years back, not only they've helped to bring forth some serious competition (like it or not, China has more than 1/7 of the world's population, with electronic devices' increasing market penetration, Google found itself left out in a huge market), even its competitor Apple have co-opted with Beijing now (case in-point: Apple Pay just marched into China).

Even Facebook came knocking China's door now, not the other way round.

So? My bet is the whole "don't be evil" will be dead and forgotten in a year or two. It's the price we've to pay to live in the digital world.
