.

The 3.7-metre-long squid was spotted swimming under fishing boats at Toyama Bay on Christmas Eve.

It reportedly lingered around the moorings for several hours and was captured on video using a submersible camera.

It is not known why the squid ventured so close to shore, but local dive shop owner Akinobu Kimura, who joined the squid in the water to guide it back out to sea,

it seemed “lively”.

“My curiosity was way bigger than fear, so I jumped into the water and [went] close to it,” he said.

“This squid was not damaged and looked lively, spurting ink and trying to entangle his tentacles around me.”

Much remains unknown about the species, which typically inhabits deep waters, but they are thought to grow as large as 13 metres long.

Yet more evidence full democracy (universal suffrage with multi-party elections) is folly before completing economic development and enshrining strong institutions to ensure open, competent, and just governance. Countries like Mexico, India, and Brazil are basket cases because they democratized without completing development, and it's doubtful any of them will ever reach EU-level let alone Japan, Western Europe, or the US.

The object lesson is the growth and stability of China is important not only to China, but also to Asia and the rest of the world. If China is stable and prosperous, the world would benefit, and if China is poor and aggrieved, it spells trouble for everyone.

Mexico mayor slain a day after taking office
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The mayor of a city south of Mexico's capital was shot to death on Saturday, less than a day after taking office, officials said.

Gunmen entered the house of Gisela Mota in the city of Temixco and killed her, said the government of Morelos state, where Temixco is located. Two other people died in the attack and two suspects have been have been detained, said Morelos Gov. Graco Ramirez in the government statement.

Officials attributed her killing to organized crime.

Mota's leftist Democratic Revolution Party released a statement describing her as "a strong and brave woman who on taking office as mayor, declared that her fight against crime would be frontal and direct."

Mota, who had been a federal congresswoman, was sworn into office on New Year's Day. She was killed the following day.

Gov. Ramirez, who belonged to Mota's party, vowed there "would be no impunity" in her killing and promised that state officials would not cede to the challenge presented by organized crime.

Temixco is a city of about 100,000 people neighboring Cuernavaca, a resort and industrial city which has been suffering kidnappings and extortion linked to organized crime groups. Morelos also neighbors drug cartel-plagued Guerrero state.

Federal and state forces are deployed in Cuernavaca and municipalities near the Guerrero state border in what was called "Operation Delta."

Local mayors and officials in Mexico have often been targeted by drug cartels.

The drug violence in Mexico has far more to do with American gun laws than democracy.

Without such easy access to so much military grade weapons, the drug cartels could not possible be the threat they are today.

Parents, let this be a lesson: Don’t leave your child unattended with your iPad.

apparently decided to get himself an early Christmas present in the form of Dino Bucks, which in addition to being an in-game currency of Jurassic World, are also linked to, you know, real money. The grand total? A whopping $5,000, all of which was spent between December 13 and 18. Needless to say, Faisall’s father, Mohamed Shugaa, is none too pleased about the charges.

As it turns out, the youngster memorized his father’s Apple ID and password, which allowed him to make purchases, mostly to upgrade the dinosaurs available in the video game. In a six-day period, Faisall managed to make an impressive 65 transactions, at one point spending some $2,000 over the course of a single hour.

Shugaa, who is a storeowner in the United Kingdom, discovered his son’s many, many mistakes when he attempted to make a purchase from a supplier. After his own charge was declined, he called his credit card company. He was was put in touch with the fraud team, who asked if he “was aware 60-plus transactions had been made to iTunes from December 13 to 18 totaling £3,911,” he told British newspaper

, why would Apple think I would be spending thousands of pounds on buying dinosaurs and upgrading a game?” he said.

But don’t worry — this story has a happy ending. Despite initially being told by an Apple Support team member that there was no guarantee he could get a refund, Shugaa eventually got all his money back, which is lucky for Faisall (considering he would’ve gotten zero presents and been in even more trouble otherwise). Shugaa, for his part, says that he hopes Apple does something to ensure that no other parents endure the same headache.

“Why didn’t they email me to check I knew these payments were being made? I got nothing from them. How much longer would it have gone on for?”

Apple, for its part, recommends that parents not share their password. Or at the very least, make sure that your child is using your iDevice under careful supervision.

It's all about the leadership, not the system itself that has to do with economic progression.

The drug violence in Mexico has far more to do with American gun laws than democracy.

Without such easy access to so much military grade weapons, the drug cartels could not possible be the threat they are today.

Actually those cartels get most of their weapons from their own government personnel from the national army and police than from America.
