The whole situation started when Columbia attacked FARC-querillians in Equadors territory. This escalated the relations between these two. Now Venezuela is doing this as a symbolic gesture to support Equador in this matter.
Why is everybody assuming that this is an agressive act by Chaves
I beleive that Columbia made an excursion into Equador a little while back.
chavez thinks he owns south america,i do agree that colombia has more experience ,but their old equip...does the US really care about what happens to colombia? and colombia is alone in south america,i dont know if they could really win
As of today the Columbians have announced that they will not reinforce their border positions and escalate. They have however released documents they captured from FARC indicating that Chavez funded the FARC to the tune of $300 million dollars. The Venezuelans wanted the Colombians to reinforce their presence on the border to enhance security, but as the Colombians do so, they shift the military balance near the border to the Colombians, and the Venezuelans feel more threatened as they see Colombia as a puppet of the US... so they beef up their presence at the border...
Yes, I see that now. If they tie Chavez's money (the $300 million) to the attempted purchase for the WMD...things will go badly for Chavez (I would hope) in world opinion.Colombia is saying more than that. According to the BBC, they are accusing FARC of trying to acquire WMD:rofl:
Yes its the War on Terror coming to South America. Honestly though, its sounds like a reworking of Monty Pythons "Spanish Inquisition" Sketch to me:rofl:

But, from everything I can tell, Chavez is a real despot and will simply spin it in such a fashion to further agitate his own citizens in the move for action on his, Chavez's part.
Hopefully, it will al blow over...but these are very serious charges if true.
