Valentine's Day vs Chinese New Year

My family celebrates Chinese New Year, basically with a big dinner with everyone (grandparents, a few relatives over here etc) - and that's basically it. My sister and I'd get about $300 collectively from parents/grandparents/aunt, but since when I first got the little red bags (about wen I was six) I always returned the cash to help parents pay off the mortgage faster (and there was nothing to spend money on). My parents said they'd pay me "interest" and return my money when I would need it.
It's been about ten years, so I estimate I'd have about $3000+ NZD.my poor parents haha
I have news for you, Its a bit like the Madoff Ponzi scheme, youve just got the same $300 dollars going round and round

I'm not Chinese. But I abhor Valentines Day. It's a conspiracy by women to gain more loot out of men and a further attempt by women to turn men into girly men..
Im too old and set in my ways to change, and I dont think any of my sons are inclined to be the new age sensitive male types, that some of the modern women seem to expect in guys, mind you my daughters partner is one of those, and hes actually a very decent chap.

I think most people leave that for Mother's Day, even if they are single. :smokin:
A better question is what to do if you are single.

My wife told me that when I was courting her,and after I left her home, her mother, if our paths had crossed would go into fits, need a doctor for sedatives and calming balms and that sorta, stuff.

One is only as old as one wants to be/or feels... I have six children and wanted more but my wife said nope , because I was too immature.
Yes my daughters partner is very good for her, high school sweet hearts and they are still together ten yrs later

Man, I was going to visit my parents on the Chinese New year day, but just found out that we got a grant due in about a week. That means I have to work on the weekend. There goes my holiday plans... I also have to apologize to my wife about the Valentine's day since I won't have time to take her out for a nice dinner... Now I owe ALL of them..
Let's just hope I do get that NIH funding to soothe my pain...

When I was dating my wife, a lot of her relatives didn't like it since "I was a little too young". Well, I am younger than my wife, by a mere 3 months, but they wanted my wife to have a older guy so that she could be taken care of. It turned out only my in-laws were confident that their daughter had made the correct call and told the others to shut up about it. Well, I'd like to say they are right on that one

I had to work real hard to win my wifes hand. In fact one of my good friends was also interested in her and we kicked around together casually as a trio. I was the complete opposite to him, he came first in the nations top scholar exams and was a promising med. student,me a law student, who never went back to his studies after coming out of the army. In fact I took time out, went to the UK to see my sister and cousins. We then decided to hitch hike our way backto New Zealand from Europe. I got as far as the middle east, had enough and caught a plane home.
Getting back to my future wife she was a very attractive person, and being of mixed race somehow added a little bit extra.(portuguese/ Chinese) Well the general interest photographers seemed to think so, as she never seemed to fail to capture their attention and be photographed for the general interest columns in the newspapers, from time to time.
Being and art student ( thats is modern art art) rather than classical studies, she also made friends with some people who went on to become prominent rock musicians of which two achieved international fame as members of pop/rock groups.
Soooo How many of you guys along with best mate, or good friends, been seriously attracted to the same women, and becoming serious compeititors for her affections, and remain good friends?
