That's some nice progress there, Jeff. Fiddling with the decals for such small objects always is a lot of tedious work, but it adds a lot of reality to the finished project as well. Can I expect unit insignia on the models?

Anyway, such models are also always a nice opportunity to do a small "what if" study. Seing Vikings & Growlers on the same deck is an interesting thought.
Even if not for the ASW purpose, having a few Vikings available as tankers is a good thought, IMO, given that a few years ago the navy lost some striking range with the retirement of the Intruders and even the SuperHornets don't go that far.

Amen to every bit of that!

Some of the decals I have do have unit insignia, but not all. I am trying to decide how to handle that...but chances are some of them will be accurate to that level of detrail...and some of them will be more general.

Gorgeous model Jeff, I never was that patient, I had to play with them before I was done, its a shame, some were completely destroyed before the glue dried. Some did last but that model cement wasn't very good stuff, very annoying to be on an important mission and your wing keeps popping off, why I went to die cast, LOL although I'm still waiting on your LIAONING sea trials in the family hot tub. Reminds me of the small battery operated sub I got with 50 cents and two box tops. Two external ballast tanks, fill for diving, stern mounted rudder and diving planes. Twist the forward hull about a quarter turn for propulsion, it was fairly awsome, nuetral bouyancy so it would dive and then resurface. I finally lost it in the big pond, my Dad was in Vietnam, I think that was about when we lost the USS Thresher.

Yep, good as Jeff's stuff looks (and it looks GREAT!), the ultimate test of the modeller's craftsmanship is in the SEA TRIALS! (Pictures, please...)

Hehehe...no tub or lake action with these models my friends.

Maybe I will build some dioramas one day for each carrier battle group to show them in their natural environment.

If I wanted actual water environs, I would beef them way up and install RC...but my wife is already watching my budget pretty closely, and RC gets really expensive.

Hehehe...besides, if I went RC, then I would get really tempted to deisgn and field miniature weapon systems to attack them with and that would not do...not do at all because then the money would be on the bottom of some lake some where.

Nope...these are for show...and represent not only too much money, but far too much time to risk in that manner.

I've been busy shifting house therefore my visit to the forum has been rather fleeting and its been great to catch up with your progress.
Excellent work Jeff. I really cant add more to whats been said beforehand. I really like your lighting effect, that and all the detail with the planes tops it off perfectly.

Thanks so much.

I am deep into getting the decals and additional detail paint on each of the aircraft. Have completed 18 aircraft and am in the middle of 8 more. I hope to have all of the aircraft completely finished by this weekend and then post another update...which at that point, except for the tugs, cranes, and fire trucks on deck, and the props and rudders on the hull, the carrier will be complete.

Still hoping for a December 15 completion date.

I'll then build the USS Lassen AEGIS Flight IIA AEGIS DDG as one of the escorts, and then two Type 054A FFGs as more escorts for the Liaoning.

Those DDGs and FFGs go a lot faster. Large airwings for carriers take weeks and weeks to build, paint, detail and get the correct markings on.

Lots of work to do!

I just realised that today is the scheduled decommissioning date for the Enterprise. I hope it receives a ceremony worthy of its achievements.
