The Zummies troubles are very serious, to have to rob the propulsion equipment off the line, just like the Ruskies had to take the fuselage of 06-1, to rebuild 055, is serious. The Zumwalts are going to be a class of 3 ships, due to the feckless manipulation of the BHO regime. Like cancelling the production of the F-22, rather than to try to preserve that capability, this places the Zummies in a quandary, very effective warship, with a future capability that will NO DOUBT be missed, shutting down production of the very special projectiles for her guns.

The Zummie is under the gun, this issue will be worked, the Zummie will no doubt prove to be a wonder of Naval engineering, but like the "Seawolfs", they have almost defanged her???

I can't begin to tell you, how "heartening" the election of Donald J. Trump has been to our military at large, and those of us who realize we are going to have to defend the United States from the nefarious back stabbing. Gov Romney had offered the possibility of reopening F-22 production? so we'll see, but Trump has promised to "revitalize" the United States Navy, so we will see what the future holds for the Zummies???

We now have a president with a heart for HIS people, and HIS country, all of them and all of it! BHO could never even pretend to care about what those of us, whom they label "deplorables" think?? and his apology tours, the last one ending after Mr. Trump's election to the office of President of the United States, have made it abundantly clear that Mr. Obama does not love this country as the rest of us do, and he spoke to those who have not worked hard, have not sweat and bled to defend and build her, because he has never sweat???

So there is hope for the Zummie, they may even take a look at a Zummie II???

Wait a little for Seawolf completely different only 3 coz : End of Cold war, price... but not exorbitant as Zumwalt ( Burke x 2+ 1.8 bill/ about 4 + 10 billions of development for only 3 ships !!! ) in end 1990's about 3 billions 1st Virginia in 2004 2.4 bill. the 3th Carter different ... 3.5 billions and with this class never big problems, concerns, worck and incontestably the more lethal attack Subm. never build also EB know do the job from a century...

A little late to the party, but I would not read too much into the cancellation of the fancy rounds.

Remember, the ultimate aim is to get railguns installed. The current main guns, as nice as they are, are only an interim solution until railguns are available.

I think that is a key party of the decision to cancel the rounds. It just doesn't make sense to spend that much on something that will get replaced eventually anyways.

The flip side could be that USN rail gun development is doing well, so the navy was prepared to leave their new toys toothless for a few years until rail guns could be added.

The root of the Norfolk and Panama casualties center around bearings linked to the driveshafts from the ship’s Advanced Induction Motors that have been contaminated by seawater leaking from failed lube oil chillers. The massive induction motors are driven by the ship’s gas turbine generators and in turn drive the ship’s shafts and power Zumwalt’s weapons and sensors; the motors are the heart of the unique power system found in the ship class.

The service is still investigating why the lube oil chillers leaked seawater into the system in the first place.

Now that the ship is in San Diego it will begin a combat systems activation period that will last for several months before it joins the fleet as a fully operational ship sometime in 2018.
Zumwalt is the first of three in the $22-billion class. Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001) and Lyndon B. Johnson are currently under construction at Bath Iron Works in Maine.

Disagree. The idea may well be to fit railguns in future, but when you put "no ammunition" in the context of everything else that has been cancelled, scaled down, compromised or ripped out, it tells a very different story -- namely, that the Zumwalt program is being put out to pasture.
