Adam Jun, , originally from Memphis, Tenn., and Erik Jorgensen from Half Moon Bay, Calif., both assigned to the Counter Improvised Explosive Detection Unit at Forward Operating Base Lightning, trekked through a creek bed while on a foot patrol in the Zormat District, May 18. They cleared the roads of explosives for a medical team setting up a free clinic in the Kaylan village and then the team provides security in the area.

School officials discussed security, local concerns and their interaction with the Afghan government during the visit with Afghan national army and International Security Assistance Forces. The campus, which houses a girl's school and a boy's school, provides education to an estimated 3,000 students ranging from primary level to high school.
