Afganistan is often called the Grave Yard of Empires. The US though seems to have done well considering.
Not the Two Antennas this guy has. That means he has tow radios, Likely a forward Air controller or Team leader. He can operate on two channels at once. Just wish they would move them having to long rods sticking out on front of your arm has got to be a encumberment. There are a number of offerings that move the Antennas on the market.
Here it is again with the antenna on the chest.
Note the Suppressed M4A1 with Eotech optic and It;s a late model.
The Uniform is Multicam with hard knee pads and Opscore Fast helmet with Coms head set mounted.
Note the Afgan commando's are wearing M81 woodland and ACH

The SF guys don't were combat boots anymore? It looks like they're wearing some kind of high top shoes that's rugged enough and light.[/QUOTE]
Since you Brought it up American and European SF often Supplement there Gear with Civilian kit they think will work well for them.
Boots are a case in point. US SF often procured boots that they found more comfortable and more serviceable
but Afghanistan is more of one.
When the Russians Marched across the northern boarders of Afghanistan. The Standard issue Russian Combat boots fell apart. Russian troops in Afghanistan found themselves unequipped for the environment they were ordered into. Infantry long made due with equipment meant for march more then battle, though they had some equipment there infantry was mostly for enforcement. In Afghanistan Infantry are the weapon Air is the Support and Armor is the hindrance. Russian troops traded in there Ushanka during summer months for boonie clones, They took Life Preservers and modified them into chest rigs for AK mags or bought Chinese rigs black market. Boots were traded for Cheap Chinese made tennis shoes. Russian Speznats captured samples of Male Afghan Dress and whole Factories in Russia produced copies.
For the US a different Event took place, The US had already begun moving gear to the Chest, Americans Farther improved there gear and reduced it's weight. lessons from Veitnam taken home were applied. When American boots were Shredded American troops did not start wearing sneakers. they contacted the boot makers, and the market responded.
The Boots worn in this picture are Salomon Quest 4D's They are a Boot designed to combine thee best of Civilian hiking boots with the needs of combat.
They are not alone on this though as all US Forces have moved to introduce a "Mountain Boot" Option fo wear in the stan.
Note the Afgan Commando is aiming a M4A1 with Acog and ANPEQ2 also note the Shoulder pocket, this is not a Surplus US BDU he is wearing
Here you can see that the head set is mated to the Helmet not a seperate unit worn under it. This is the Advantage of side mounted rails on a helmet. A feature I hope to see adopted US military wide.
