Good question. I honestly don't think a tank is that difficult to manufacture for most of the advanced nations of the world. The US managed to produce around ~10,000 M1 Abrams of all types so I suspect they will aim to manufacture several hundred of this variant alone.

Would be interesting to see if they update their old hull ??? A lot are just laying in depots in different states.

Seems like M1E3 is a modification of the old hull
I think that is very likely. Thought it will probably have some significant differences. Overall, they have mentioned they want a hybrid-electric drive, auto-loader and three man crew. Eventually you should also expect to see APS, some sort of vision system and the ability to launch drones. The AbramsX is probably a good indicator of where the M1E3 will eventually end up (remembering that the M1E3 is only a prototype).

EDIT: From a quick Google, it looks like there are at least ~3,500 M1's in storage around the US.

The M1E3 Abrams is going to shown at the Detroit Auto Show this coming Wednesday (January 14th, 2025). The US Army has released some teaser images to go along with the announcement.

The angle of the images makes it hard to really tell what is different.
It'll be interesting to see what adaptations we made for the Age of Drones.
