“Should the Air Force find they need a highly survivable platform with the flexibility that Vectis enables for Increment II, I think it’ll be a great candidate,” Sanchez says.
Sanchez would not identify the engine that will be used in Vectis, just that it is “sized appropriately to be able to fly alongside and work with” crewed aircraft. The company’s operational analysis shows that the ability for the aircraft to be supersonic is not necessary, he says.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say supersonic is what we see is needed in this space,” he says.
It's possible, but am i recalling wrongly that when the hoo-hah about the classified program started (actually about said program losing money) there was mention about export customers as well? The wording to me is similar as to used for this Vectis as well.It is not. This drone is separate from the secret program. Drone is privately funded program, while secret program is Pentagon funded. The 'international' wording basically rules out SR-72 or any kind of strategic capability only the US military would operate. It's speculated to be some sort of system designed for interoperability with allies, possibly for joint ISR or missile defense networks. It's possible, but am i recalling wrongly that when the hoo-hah about the classified program started (actually about said program losing money) there was mention about export customers as well? Real reason they need the H-1B fee.If this cute little thing is what Lockheed on last quarter prior to even reaching the flying prototype stage, then I'm terrified — as a taxpayer to the US gov't — to even want to ask just how much it'll cost down the road on a per airframe basis.
US as a whole do not seem to buy into unmanned equipment as much as China. I suppose it's the old farts in charge being skeptical of all the fancy AI stuff. Also, if this UAV had been revealed before August this year, then it'd be a wow factor.
But doing that after 9-3? Meh.
Moreover, China's high-tier UADFs are already flying (at least not publicly). Why are the American ones still in CGI format like the F-47?
