"By replacing the aircraft’s longerons — the thin strips of material that make up the skeleton of an aircraft — the Air Force can extend the life of the F-15C/D past 2030 for about $1 million per aircraft, Boeing’s vice president of F-15 programs, Steve Parker, said during an April 17 interview."

and this is what we should do, let Boeing do the work and fix their airplane right!

one mil it's a bargain!

Indeed it is, and the F-15C is a much better airplane for those longer overwater missions that we will no doubt be undertaking. Keep Boeing and their great F-15 going for as long as possible, the F-15 is still being ordered and appreciated by our many allies.

The F-16 is a very capable aircraft, but the F-15 still has the combat advantage, bigger radar, faster, just a more stable platform and safer day to day to operate and fly, it will burn more fuel, and require additional maintenance on that second engine, but its almost an F-22 in many mission parameters, something the F-16 can't really claim.

Of course that's just patching the structural issue to keep F15C in the Air it still needs a Radar upgrade, IRST, Communications Patch to work with F22 and F35, upgraded electronics warfare kit.

So does the F-16, and don't think the SLEP to extend the F-16 from 6,000 to 8,000 hours or even 12,000 hours will be cheap, I can assure you it won't be, the F-15 has a lot more internal volume to "play with", for that bigger better radar and fire control system.

I hunted Whitetail deer with a bow, and also a 44 magnum with iron sights for fun,,, if I was hungry, I would use my 270 with a Leupold scope. period!

We are very light on HI end aircraft, we have lots and lots of LO end aircraft, why it would be very smart to bring up the F-22B and modernize that for a 5.5 Gen aircraft, leave off the OVT, build the skins with the coatings impregnated into it as on the F-35, and bring in two F-135 hi efficiency turbines with very stealthy nozzles to finish this project the way it should be...

The F-15 is a very robust airplane, it has been "beat on" a lot, the F-16 is also a very robust airplane, and it has been "beat on" a lot, the solution is obvious, bring up the F-15s we need in the interim with a structural fix for now, (its a NO BRAINER) at a million bucks a copy, let Boeing set up the program, and hold them to their million or so per copy. Cheap fix to keep a great airplane fully air-worthy and combat ready!

USAF needs to get their heads together and quit flapping their eyelids at one another! Stick to the core mission, Air Superiority! Bombing and CAS are follow on missions that won't happen unless we maintain our core mission!

strike group will be near South Korea "in a matter of days," Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday as concerns over a potential North Korean nuclear weapons test continue to mount in the Asia-Pacific region.

"With regard to the USS Carl Vinson carrier group, our expectation is that they will be in the Sea of Japan, in position, in a matter of days before the end of this month," Pence said Saturday at a joint news conference with Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The announcement comes following confusion over the strike group's whereabouts since the

announced that the ships were canceling their Australia port visits and heading toward the Western Pacific as of April 8.

Several news outlets then reported that the strike group was headed toward the Korean Peninsula, citing U.S. officials in Washington.

On April 11, President Donald Trump stated after being asked about North Korea that "we are sending an armada."

However, photos posted on Navy.mil on April 15 showed the carrier and its accompanying ships near Indonesia's Sunda Strait, which is about 3,500 miles from the Korean Peninsula.

On Wednesday, Vinson strike group commander Rear Adm. James Kilby wrote on the carrier's Facebook page that their deployment would be extended 30 days "to provide a persistent presence in the waters off the Korean peninsula."

The carrier was near the Philippines on Friday when a pilot ejected from an F/A-18E Hornet into the ocean as the aircraft was preparing to land on the carrier, the Navy said in a statement. The pilot was quickly retrieved and did not appear to have been seriously hurt.

The USS Carl Vinson strike group includes the flagship aircraft carrier, its air wing, the destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy, and the cruiser USS Lake Champlain.
