to give realistic training for 1st Fighter Wing F-22 pilots, Langley officials say. There are 17 aircraft in the new squadron.
In essence, the T-38s play the 'bad guy' as the F-22 Raptors use their radar capabilities and various tactics to locate and intercept them, replicating real-world threats Raptor pilots face.

The 71st stand down in 2010 when USAF had retired about 200 F-15/16, A-10.

Belonged to 27th FS which have 19 F-22 other 94th have 25.
Same as Tyndall a FTS with T-38, i think logically 3 FW to Elmendorf close of Eielson where is a F-16 Agr Sqn don' t need.

F-22 as B-2 get flight hours very expensive and with T-38 DOD saves money, good idea.
For real or almost training there are Red Flag in general 4 by years complete T-38 training.
For training cheaper also there are private companies ATAC, DRAKEN and some others which use especialy the " scooter " A-4 but very modernised, new radar, electronic...

US weapon bases set for Poland in mid-2016
US heavy military equipment will arrive in Poland in mid-2016 to be based in the north-east and west of the country.

Polish Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak told the Polish press agency (PAP) that Polish-US talks on the issue have entered a decisive phase.

"After talks with our US partners we chose two places for the bases of heavy equipment from the US Army - one in western Poland and one in north-eastern Poland. For now, we do not want yet give further details of where these places are," the minister said.

He added that the centre for exercises between US and Polish troops will remain the training ground in Drawsko Pomorskie in north-western Poland.

"We anticipate that the deployment will take place in mid-2016,” Siemoniak said.

Asked about the deadline for completion of negotiations with the Americans, the defence minister said he expected to "dot the Is" at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels in early October. "I want these cases to be closed by the beginning of October," said Siemoniak.

The distribution of US heavy weapons and military equipment was a topic of conversation during the May meeting between Siemoniak and US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter in Washington.

The move will be the first time the US has stored heavy military equipment in the newer NATO member states in the region. It comes amid growing concern about Russia's foreign policy intentions and calls from Poland to have a stronger NATO presence.

US Navy to Accompany Every US-Flagged Ship Passing Through Strait of Hormuz

Jbc1VoR.jpg

The United States Navy warships will now follow all US-flagged commercial vehicles passing through the Strait of Hormuz out of concern that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy ships could seize them, according to media reports on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US decision comes as a result of Iran seizing the US-flagged vessel, Maersk Kensington, on Friday, and another cargo ship flagged in the Marshall Islands, Maersk Tigris, on Tuesday, according to media reports.

“US Navy warships will now accompany every US-flagged commercial vessel that passes through the Strait of Hormuz due to concerns that ships from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps navy could try to seize a US cargo ship,” CNN said.

Seems like we should have taken the hint from the seizure a couple of months ago.

Now after seizing two more, we say that we will escort all of them because Iran "could" try and seize more.

How about because they have already seized three?

IMHO, they should not try and soft petal this.

USS-Donald-Cook-Expected-in-the-Black-Sea.jpg

Naval Today said:
US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) will enter the Black Sea, Aug. 28, 2015, to promote peace and stability in the region.

The ship’s operations in the Black Sea are meant to enhance maritime security and stability, readiness, and naval capability with their allies and partners.

Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet Vice Adm. James Foggo, said:

"Forward deployed naval forces play a critical role in the deterrence mission. Over the past year we have sustained a presence in the Black Sea, even as we operate consistently in the Mediterranean. We are making our presence in the region ‘normal,’ and we are conducting regular and frequent exercises and engagements with navies in the area."

Donald Cook entered the Black Sea in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

USS Donald Cook (DDG 78), forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on a routine patrol conducting naval operations with allies and partners in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in order to advance security and stability in the Black Sea region.

August 28, 2015

USSOCOM has awarded Polaris Defense a new, sole source, firm-fixed-price contract for the MRZR off-road vehicle platform and vehicle delivery started earlier this month. The $83 million, five year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, signed in July, continues delivery order options on MRZR 2 and MRZR 4 vehicles – along with contractor logistics support (CLS) for spares, training and support as part of the light tactical all-terrain vehicle (LTATV) program. Since 2013, Polaris Defense has been delivering MRZR vehicles to USSOCOM under a blanket purchase agreement (BPA) against a GSA contract.

“We’ve been providing the MRZR for three years to USSOCOM and this contract reiterates that ultralight mobility is still a critical component of Special Operations Forces missions,” said Rich Haddad, Polaris Defense General Manager. “These are extremely configurable platforms, providing operators the ability to quickly prepare for missions even in the most extreme terrain. MRZRs provide extreme mobility SOF can count on, that deploys in tactical air, providing maximum flexibility.”

The MRZR is a highly mobile off-road platform that is CV-22 internally transportable and can be configured a number of ways to help expeditionary forces meet mission requirements for emerging threats, while forward deployed. Some common tactical features of these off-road platforms include increased payload, standard winch, electronic power steering, aircraft tie-downs, fold down rollover protective structures (ROPS), large cargo boxes, IR light capability and blackout mode.

“Our customers appreciate that we use robust commercial off-the-shelf components for intuitive operation and easier maintenance worldwide,” said Haddad. “Our MRZRs are in service in more than 20 countries, providing a high degree of interoperability and commonality among U.S. and allied forces.”

US F-22s Arrive In Europe
Four US Air Force F-22 Raptors touched down in Germany on Friday, marking the start of the fighter jet’s first-ever training deployment to Europe.

Four F-22s and 60 airmen from the 95th Fighter Squadron arrived at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany on Friday, according to an Aug. 28 statement. One C-17 Globemaster III, from the 60th Airlift Wing, touched down along with the jets.

The aircraft and airmen will train with allied and US forces through mid-September, according to the statement.

“This inaugural Raptor training deployment is the perfect opportunity for these advanced aircraft to train alongside other U.S. Air Force aircraft, joint partners, and NATO allies,” said General Frank Gorenc, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa commander, according to the statement.

The training is designed to prove the fifth-generation fighter jets can successfully deploy to European bases and other NATO installations, as well as familiarize pilots with the regional theater. The deployment will also give the US planes a chance to conduct combat air training with different US and European jets, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon.

“It’s important we test our infrastructure, aircraft capabilities, and the talented airmen and allies who will host 5th generation aircraft in Europe,” said Gorenc. “This deployment advances our airpower evolution and demonstrates our resolve and commitment to European safety and security.”

the service would send F-22s to Europe for the first time on Monday, just weeks after top Pentagon brass began openly calling Russia the greatest threat to the United States. The deployment is part of the European Reassurance Initiative, a Pentagon effort to soothe anxiety among European allies in the face of increased Russian aggression.

Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James made clear during an Aug. 24 press conference at the Pentagon that the Raptor’s “inaugural” deployment to Europe was designed to send a signal to Russia.

"Rotational forces and training exercises help us maintain our strong and balanced approach, and we will certainly be continuing those in the future," she said. "For the Air Force, an F-22 deployment is certainly on the strong side of the coin."

The F-22 went operational in 2005, but did not see combat until last fall when it was deployed in the opening night of anti-ISIS operations in Syria. Since then, the Air Force has regularly deployed the fighter jet in the region.
