So the Raiders and Defiants type will be working in tandem to replace the Blackhawks and Apache?

for some perhaps, but not for the US. Raider is a Scout chopper. Its the best option to replace the Kiowa and US Socom little birds ( MD500 Defenders) . It moves out spots baddies and targets them for heavier forces it's heaviest weapon load is maybe a pair of Hellfires on one stub and a 25mm autocannon on the other assuming a 25mm gunpod. thats about it.
Apache comes with a 30mm bushmaster and can load up with 16 hellfires.
now SB>1 as seen is a demonstrator and likely to be the basis for the production platform that would replace the blackhawk once the production starts it then comes down to the big decision. Bell's V280 Valor projects a direct attack derivative using the same base airframe with installation of a 30mm Bushmaster 2 external rocket hard points and about 4 antitank missiles with more possibly inside.
Defiant could likely be fitted like that or option two. where they take the basic critical systems and automotive feature

and then follow the pattern of the Iroquois and Cobra.

Cobra taking the tail, rotors, engines and parts of the Fuselage and mating them to a streamlined armored cockpit with stub wings and a turreted cannon. Sikorsky has already shown a model of such a platform in concept which is what this concept art is based on. I think it would earn the name great white.

okay this Future Technology Demonstrator is the chassis and platform that BAE was cooking up for the US Army's BCT-GCV program. BAE put it on a Diet knocking it from the ridiculous 80 tons down to the more reasonable 40 tons. I like the Hybrid drive. it's got the technical readiness to really be considered good to go proven tech. the first attampt dates back to WW1, then you have

And the X-M8 Thunderbolt II Hybrid vehicle demonstrator. Which was built by United Defence before it was absorbed by BAE and served as a FCS proof of concept for the mounted Combat system.
I am not so happy with the weight of the system even at 40 tons it a logistical nightmare demanding a C17's max load. cut it down to 28 tons, scale it to a 11 man capacity. install a integrated APS, band tracks, modular ceramic-aramid shell, a radar absorbent low thermal paint, BAE's Adaptiv system, options for a number of turrets including a medium caliber IFV, 120mm direct fire, NEMO mortar, Rocket and ATGM launcher, that laser gun system and maybe even a howitzer or small railgun and it could be a really really high tech platform with excellent fighting specs

About two dozen members of the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6, joined by a few American-trained Yemeni counterterrorism soldiers, flew secretly by helicopter to a location in Hadhramaut Province near the Saudi border, according to officials from both countries. The commandos then hiked several hundred yards in the dark to a mountainside cave, where they surprised the militants holding the captives.
etc. according to

This is a US Military News thread. Not one about how much Russia spends or NATO, or the EU. Post comments or article about their announcements on their respective threads.

Also not about nuclear war scenario discussions. Those are verboten in any case.

Some of you have been around here far long enough to know better.

OT posts and responses to them deleted.

Thanks.

USAF toasts Whiskey designation for CRH fleet
By: CRAIG HOYLELONDON Source: Flightglobal.com 16:11 28 Nov 2014
The US Air Force has settled on the HH-60W designation for its future fleet of Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk-derived combat rescue helicopters (CRH), some five years before it will start taking delivery of the new type.

Announced on 24 November, the step will lead to the “-60 Whiskey” replacing the air force’s current fleet of HH-60G Pave Hawks in performing the personnel recovery role. These entered use from 1982.

“The official name of the HH-60W will be determined at a later date,” says the USAF, which will eventually operate a fleet of up to 112 of the new rotorcraft under a June 2014 deal worth a potential $7.9 billion.

“The aircraft will feature increased internal fuel capability, compared with today’s HH-60G helicopter, thereby giving the HH-60W the required range, while increasing its internal cabin space,” the air force says. “Using a tested platform already in production and integrating features currently in use on other aircraft will help control risk,” it adds.

A system requirements review for the CRH programme is due to be conducted during fiscal year 2015, with first deliveries of the new aircraft due to be made in FY2019.

Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database records the USAF as having a current active fleet of 91 HH-60G Pave Hawks.
