Brimstone offering for F/A18E/F and H60R that means that MBDA thinks they have a chance at not only those American platforms but others to F35B/C for sure and if they go Brimstone the bean counters are going to push a Brimstone fleet on the Marines that means Harvest hawk, UH1 Venom, AH1 Viper, drones and legacy platforms. And if the Navy goes Brimstone the Army and Air Force are left holding the bag for the JAGMs with the Air Force likey taking to Brimstone as it would fit F35A and drones. The Army would have to decide if they want to keep JAGMS or adopt Brimstone for there Apaches. The system also has potential on LCS and other naval platforms MBDA has a plant near Red stone Arsenal where production could be run making it Berry Compliant, and opening a second plant for Brimstones would be a boon to French and British users as it would allow a second production source elevating the chances of running down to single digit stocks like what was reported to have happened during Libyan operations.
additionally the structural similarities between Hellfire and brimstone (chills the spine no) might allow eased transition and integration.

Using gas to liquids technology which has been around since WWII they are extracting H2 and CO2 from sea water and converting it into JP fuel very interesting

They do not say what catalyst they used but it's a iron derivative, the Ficher Tropsch process dates back many decades and isn't anything new but the application is news

That's the first time I've heard about a BMD ship:

TE?
We've discussed it numerous times here on SD, including on this thread.

It would be able to house the DBR which is going on the Ford Class carriers and have all the room and power it needs to be able to fully exploit it. Then it would have massive room for VLS cells. In addition to making a strong BMD vessel for use off of the US Coasts or allied coasts, IMHO it would be a GREAT vessel to have as an arsenal ship along with any carrier strike group or amphibious ready group.

Can anybody please tell me what's going to happen to the cruisers? I can't "read" what this says:

Posted on InsideDefense.com: April 9, 2014

The Navy's plan to modernize 11 out of a fleet of 22 guided missile cruisers will lead to more than $6 billion in cost savings, according to a top service official.

"By drawing out manpower and operating costs during the extended modernization period, the Navy will realize [costs] in excess of $6 billion," Deputy Assistant Navy Secretary for ship programs Allison Stiller said on April 9 at the Navy League's annual symposium.

The savings would be realized across the length of the phased modernization period, a service official told Inside the Navy in an email. That will last until roughly 2021, the official wrote, although the exact time line is "still in the works."

The proposal to place the cruisers in reduced operating status while they are modernized is a response to Congress' rejection in its fiscal year 2014 omnibus appropriations bill of the Navy's desire to retire several aging warships.

Appropriators instead established a $2.2 billion Ship Modernization, Operations and Sustainment Fund to provide for costs associated with the continued operation of seven Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruisers and two amphibious dock landing ships.

The Navy has recommended that the phased modernization program begin in 2015, but the plan is contingent on approval from Congress.

Well about 10 years ago the USN had a plan to modernize all of it's Ticos.. but no money was ever available. The USN also had the CG(X) or CG-21 plan to replace the Ticos but that never happened.

Well to me it looks like 11 Ticos will be upgraded and 11 retired or in what is called a "reduced status"...what ever that mean. The remaining 11 Ticos will more than likely operate solely with Carrier Strike Groups.

Reduced status means they will not be manned saving money

CVN-73 forward deployed is also facing the axe we will know in 2016

The way I see it when you put equipment into reduced status it costs more reactivate it and get it back in service this has been shown to be the care time and time again

Bringing back USS George Washington and laying it up and having it sitting around for a years then bringing it back into service is a big issue

So they actually in the long term might be losing money taking it out of frontline service

52 LCS might be cut to 32

F35C procurement in the coming years is getting slower

One thing that is going ahead is that there is money for 2 x DDG and 2 x SSN construction every year for the next few years
