In short:
- The procurement of the SSN(X) is to be deferred to 2040, with each boat estimated to cost 6.7-8 billion USD.
- The SSN(X) is likely going to displace more than the Seawolf SSN, likely around 10000 tons.
- The Block 5 Virginia SSNs are already costing more than 4.5 billion USD per boat.

Virginia Block 12 when?

Booz Allen pitches Brilliant Swarms space based missile interceptors using sub 100kg satellites. It will be a collection of at least 2,000 satellites "that communicate and coordinate in real-time, acting as both threat sensors and hit-to-kill interceptors for ballistic missiles in their boost/ascent and mid-course trajectories." Officials say it would be possible to create and deploy a constellation of up to 2,000 linked satellite interceptors at roughly the same cost as the price tag for developing and deploying our current ground-based interceptors and associated global radars. These satellites would operate in LEO at somewhere around 300 to 600 km with an operating life of 4-5 years.

How that's possible if US doesn't have working HGV or HCM, meanwhile claim SM-6 can intercept both? You can't even prove yourself by testing on your own missiles. Only sharpest spear can validate the thickest shield.

It's a test of the new Aegis and its ability to receive telemetry from the Hypersonic Tracking Satellites.
They're solving one of the two hardest problems in intercepting hypersonics, one of them is persistent tracking (from launch, glide to impact) and the other is propulsion. The SM-6 currently in production is pretty good (21 inch second stage motor) but is still a stop-gap until more capable solutions are found.

Not exactly news or data, but I after the NGAD announcement I was looking through F-15, F-16 and F-18 development history and I found this canard variant of the F-15 from the early '80s I had never seen before. I knew of F-15 ACTIVE program from the '90s and 2000's, but I did not know the F-15 STOL/MTD (Short Takeoff and Landing/Maneuver Technology Demonstrator) proceeded that program. Anyway, it resulted in this awesome looking F-15 in camo paint with these cool 2D thrust vectoring engines from GE.

[snip]

An operationalised version of this aircraft, the XF-15F Cheetah, is featured in Dale Brown's 1989 novel Day of the Cheetah, where it is pitted against the more advanced XF-34 Dreamstar with forward-swept wings that has been stolen by the Soviets. It's a fun read, if you're into that sort of thing.
