"According to the Washington Post, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has signed a memo, ordering senior leaders at the Pentagon and across the U.S. Military to develop plans to cut roughly 40% of the defense budget by 2030, in increments of 8% per year for the next five years. The United States’ defense budget in 2025 was nearly $850 billion, having drastically grown since the mid-2010s due to threats from both China and Russia, who also both continue to increase their annual defense spending. The memo ordered that the proposed cuts be drawn up by February 24th, with only 17 categories of defense spending being prohibited from the cuts by the Trump Administration, which include operations at the U.S-Mexico Border, the modernization of nuclear weapons and missile defense system, and the acquisition of submarines, one-way attack drones and other munitions."

The Mitchell Institute ran the Space Endurance Workshop with over 55 partipants from the NRO, Space Force and commercial partners to wargame various future difficult scenarios in space.

The participants looked at 6 hypothetical scenarios:
1. Dealing with a potential nuclear armed co-orbital ASAT launched by Russia as early as 2026.
2. A potential attack by China on US orbital assets during hurricane season that will affect launch infrastructure in Florida
3. Deter an invasion of an African nation by China and how to disrupt their kill chains in space
4. How to deal with highly maneuverable space weapons launched by the PLA
5. Counterterrorism scenario in space involving a commercial space station or space hotel
6. Humanitarian effort to rescue stranded Chinese astronauts from their lunar base

The finding was the current Space Force need to develop the appropriate, posture, strategy and resources to build a resilient infrastructure in space.

6. Humanitarian effort to rescue stranded Chinese astronauts from their lunar base

Like lol, lmao even.

What the USSF (or that workshop) should be doing right now is devising ways on getting their two stranded astronauts back to Earth, instead of daydreaming about putting on the "muh hero of the universe" cape to rescue some stranded Chinese astronauts from their lunar base in the 2050s.

Also, is their workshop timeframe hinging on the assumption (or shall I say, dream) that China is just a Soviet Union 2.0?
