Seriously I don’t know why I stick around anymore. This thread isn’t about news anymore it’s nation bashing, trolling, tweet posting and the level of narrative national defense analysis you could find blasted across the trash of RT, Sputnik and the National enquirer… sometimes the Weekly World news... It’s a lampoon of it’s former self.

It’s about the supply chain.
The magnets in the F135 was a violation of the contract with the DOD and security of the supply chain. It established an opening that could be exploited to create disruption in the delivery of the product in a major way. Just look at the car industry for the last couple of years where in major manufacturing has been stunted by lack of critical low end chips.

3D printer what is it capable of making that is absolutely critical to National defense? Not a lot. Anything it could Make could easily be sourced elsewhere or by other means and though the printer may be of Chinese origin the products it makes won’t be. Assuming it’s used beyond just additive manufacturing of caps for Fire extinguishers, bits of plastic that could be used to stow glow sticks. Maybe a coffee mug holder.

Stick around as you are unofficially given the role of the explainer.

People who lack the deeper understanding of the technical working of things tend to default to this type of argumentative nature. If you want to discuss purely facts and points then stick to that and don't feed into the trend of mindless gossip it more often than not is not worth pursuing conversation about if it's not to your satisfaction. I find it a bit refreshing given the amount of Western narrative and media I'm exposed to due to my geolocation in the world.

I think we're only at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what we can do with "3D printing", I believe we've we'll be printing more than just 'plastic' objects in the future and have warehouse sized "3D printing" in the future. It's just the next evolutionary step in mass production, like when the American's decided to start making whole cast pieces rather than technical complex welds of early model Sherman tanks during World War 2. Or better when they started to make ships this way, instead of lots of individual part they make whole pre-made parts like they did with houses or cars, it rampt up production significantly.

I mean, the US does this to themselves with their paranoia, and by the look of things, its only going to get worse

Isnt there technology to 3d print metal parts too delicate for machining?

I agree on the assessment of the potential we already see metal and carbon fiber additive manufacturing however the unit in question is not that type. The unit in question prints acrylic based. Not metal, not carbon fiber. As such it’s basically a model maker.

Ask our Russian poster’s about Supply chains to military production.
The short version 2013 Russian modernization of equipment was centered around western imports and working well for Russia. 2014 Ukraine invasion part 1. 2015 Russian Modernization stagnation. Everything falls apart western sanctions.

Secondary Chinese officials openly have vocalized the angst. Recent Chinese government statements in regards to Ukraine and NATO show that a conflict between the two is more that paranoia. If the head of a state that has portions of you MIC supply chain running though it calls you a nation security threat. That’s a sign you shouldn’t be relying on them.

Mostly of the US own doings as they have increasingly antagonized China after Obama "Asia pivot".

The US is a security threat to everybody, though.

“retired” Chinese leaders have been pushing similar rhetoric for years even before Obama. As far back as the Clinton administration signs of pacific security issues were brewing. The pivot to Asia would have happened in the early Bush administration if not for 9/11. jingoism is a two way street. China has Antagonized just as much and the two create a feed back loop. Especially when you start Saber rattling.

This statement makes no sense.
It’s a zero sum argument with no room to except that even China has taken advantage of the US position at global leader to grow. It fails at every level to accept that the US security is why nations like South Korea haven’t had an active war, that the main reason why conventional conflicts are a rarity is application of the international rules based order centered around the US and it’s alliance.
Stating this as is you believe it to be matter of fact is basically a statement of war. Fortunately no one here have the power to start one, my point is when you make such a statement you have closed your mind to any compromise.
