One thing I wonder about new laser weapons. What if the surface of the missile or projectile was coated with a highly reflective mirror finish?
A highly reflective surface might be possible on a subsonic missile. The problem with that finish is that it impairs emission of heat. A supersonic missile that gets very hot in flight would then not be able to shed its heat and that could lead to structural integrity problems.

Some kind of ablative material might be a better alternative.

I've always found it funny that real American engineers put diving planes on the sail of their new boomer-class while internet experts always tell me that such design makes submarine too noisy.

My understanding is the primary reason to put diving on the hull is it allows the planes to retract and thus makes the planes less vulnerable to damage during under-ice operation,

An interesting video of a model of CVN-79 John F. Kennedy, with a look inside the EMALS and AAG systems. Also visible are the dual band SPY-3 (X) and SPY-6 (S) radars. The fact that the Flight III Burke's will not be getting this configuration makes me think that they either can't handle the weight or don't have enough power. I personally lean towards the latter possibility.
