Not sure if F/A-XX announcement will happen today? Reuters had confirmed the announcement and time by this point last week, so maybe it was delayed?
That or they finally learned their fucking lesson about Opsec. I still think that the announcement will come out today if it's going to come out this week, it is an friday after all. Those stooges will never miss an opportunity to mess around with the stock market. They will never announce good news on a weekend, only bad news, while all good news goes on a weekday. Not sure if F/A-XX announcement will happen today? True, I do see how the general America public might be upset at Boeing getting both the NGAD and the FA-XX contract. The other possibility is that the powers that be in DC expect a generally negative public reaction to their decision on the F/A-XX competition.
As such, they may intend to break the announcement right around close of business today -- with reporters heading out of the office and most people getting ready for their weekends -- hoping the story will quickly get lost in the news cycle.
Not sure if the current administration is that savvy, but some of their minions might be, so we shall see.

Nah, their jets are a large source of national pride for Americans. Your average american 100% knows about the F-22 and the F-35. They might not know the details, but even the most rural hillbilly knows about their existence. And americans might not know about Lockheed or northdrop, but Boeing is really really famous this days, and not for a good reason.(I dont think the "general American public" knows what F/A-XX is. Unclear if they even know what a Northrop Grumman is. We're all nerds here to one degree or another and, as per the comic above, it can be striking to realise how ignorant most folks are of even the most basic principles and facts that we take for granted in discussions here.)
>Navy doesn't want canardMeanwhile, here is our friend Tomcat's interpretation of the F/A-XX. It's like a J-50 with american characteristics.
Yeah, I think that has been known for a while now. The Navy wants a more conservative approach to the F/A-XX. The Navy likely will need to build 300 or 400 hundred F/A-XX airframes at a minimum to replace the F/A-18 Super Hornet. This aircraft will likely take up the E/A-18 Growler role at some point, so that is another ~150 airframes needed in the future.
"Some analysts suspect these public renderings might deliberately obscure the aircraft’s true design, serving as an “artist’s deception.”"
China has flown two sixth-gen aircraft, and neither of them has canards. I am wondering which country they are trying to deceive.
