Where did you get the info that the Dali Lama was tutored by a SS Sargent in his boyhood?

What would happen to Tibet if the Chinese decided to vacate the place(I know thats highly unlikely because of strategic reasons) and in a fit of Pique reduced the amount of money that it annually invests in Tibet.
I thinkthat Tibets support comes from Western Activists and anti modernists who see Tibet as some form of Shangri La, a place they go to, to seek some form of Nirvana, and any Chinese investment money is highly suspicious. Therefore most of Tibets income will come from tourism, and would that be enough to sustain the country, should it revert back to a feudal type of society. or would in a few years be a country that holds out its hand for world charity, and Band Aid rock concert donations.I was listening to the BBC phone in talk about the Tibet Question, and I think a European nurse rang up and she said she was quiet concerned by the health question. She said in her capacity as a nurse, she had to treat people biten by rabid dogs , as the Buhdist and its belief in reincarnation prevented these rabid dogs from being destroyed.
Futhermore can anyone enlighten me at what age can enter a monastry to become a monk.because on the BBc program, an invited Monk said it was Twenty. Well Ive seen some pictures of Tibetan monks and some of them look like young teenagers

sorry golly my last post might seem like a rant, though it wasnt intended to be especially the dog bit, I was just trying to reinforce my concern about Tibet reverting back to simplistic ideals which may not be good for the country

moderators i think you should consider closing this thread because it's such a hot topic where uncontrolled emotions would turn it into a shouting match. we don't want to see this forum turned into like other forums out there where it's nothing but insults over insults from the anti china forumites vs the pro china forumites. let's keep this place for intelligent and informative discussions on military developments in the chinese military. :china:

This reminds me of a news story about a husband who keeps abusing his wife until the day his wife slaps him back. The husband then cries and complains his wife is violent.

Maybe they should try divorce. I guess the problem is who should move out the house.

The problem with this facile analogy is this: The matter is obfuscated and it is introducing false parallels. IN the example above, both individuals are fully responsible for all previous actions because there are only two individuals involved.

Riots and oppression involves tens of millions; individuals who are no longer present was responsible, individuals who are affected bore no responsibility, etc.

Extending your theory of 'national personhood' is incredibly dangerous, and is the same sort of basis that Chinese extreme nationalist youths riots against Japanese football players, or could be used to justify nations starting random wars to justify past wrongs.

I don't need to explain why THAT is nothing but trouble.

This relates to Heinrich Harrer, a rather soft light version of whose life is immortalised in the film 7 years in Tibet.

TO Finn McCool

The SS were not the boy scouts and you did not get if you were not politically sound (ie a good National Socialist), you certainly didn't make Sergeant!.

Back to topic, India is due; in my opinion, for a rough ride over this. The PRC is going to accuse it of harbouring terrorist organisations. My further guess is that it will promise to reciprocate the gesture viz a vis Kashmir or indeed surrounding areas of Utter Pradesh in the vicinity of Tibet South, unless such terrorists are arrested, closed down or expelled.

Countries get invaded or liberated because they are weak, western or not. When the shop owner or company has greater power (in the form of guns or economic edge) over the market than the consumers, it can surely force upon individual consumers with discriminating terms. Economics 101.

This is both wrong and off topic. The world is a LOT more complicated than 'I have big stick ROAR!' American can easily occupy any number of small nation (say, Qatar). France can easily annex Andorra. These things don't happen not because Captain Andorra will be there to defend sacred land of Andorra against evil Frenchman and his sidekick Spanishboy. Lots of other things matter. Balance of power. International perception. Trade. Cost-benefit analysis. And, yes, Law. This is a reason why even the US, staunchly pro-Kosovo as she is, still made it quite clear that it is a SPECIAL CASE. Laws are important indicators of international norms of behaviour. It gives other people an idea what you might or might not do. Break these norms flagrantly, and others no longer trust you. After all, they have no framework as to what you may or may not do. You are a wildcard.

A simple thought experiment: Suppose your theory holds. Try to use its model to explain WHY American hasn't occupied Liberia. Or why Russia hasn't annexed South Ossetia.

Nations and groups don't beat each other up just because they CAN.

You may think you are civil. But in this forum here we are talking physical destruction by air, sea, land and space. We dont come here to talk about legal framework or treatise formulation. It is thugs alright.

There is no reason why discussion of wars and weapons cannot be conducted in a civilized manner. Any more than a forum on crime has to be populated by criminals.

Actually, I really doubt that. India had been quite helpful to China barring a few ill-advised comments (and they really had no choice, should look at what some radicals were demanding), breaking up protests and stopping the march.

Why make trouble for India? Pushing India into enemy and friend of America is just asking for trouble, and all this over a few ill-chosen words?
