Actually, I don’t know whether to be surprised or amused. This has, now, become quite bizarre! But, I guess Putin’s saying “we can all make genocide accusations”?

No doubt. Why would Russia let NATO to cheat again?
Playing political games ? A bit late for these accusations... War would not be pretty in Ukraine, better to find some diplomatic solutions. In any case, even with a clever diplomatic solution, Ukraine is at the minimum a nuclear wasteland target.
Stupid is what stupid does and Bonnie Glaser is why America continues it's downward path.
I don't think Putin should recognize the Donbass as independent or part of Russia. He loses them as leverage to force Ukraine into the Minsk Agreement if he does that. A better way to go is a "humanitarian intervention" where he smashes up the Ukrainian military, withdraws, and forces Kiev to implement the Minsk Agreement.
It seems there is movement of Russian troops.
