And I've been to Taiwan and HK numerous times in the recent years. My best friend lives in Taiwan right now. You cannot possibly visit Taipei and HK and think Taipei is less Chinese than HK. Culturally speaking, Taipei is more like southern China than even Shanghai is.

Think about it this way, 10% of Taiwanese population lives in the mainland. There are a whole lot of Taiwanese people with spouses from the mainland. There are a whole lot of Taiwanese businesses operating in the mainland. There is a lot of ties between the two sides of the strait. This is not like 20 years ago when Taiwanese and HKers all thought they were richer and more sophisticated than mainlanders.

Sure, they don't donate money to China. Why would they donate money to a place that's trying to conquer them? But are they scared of pissing China off? They sure are. If anything, the Ukrainian conflict will convince more Taiwanese people that they are by themselves and should be on their best behaviour in their dealings with the mainland.
How do you define Southern Chinese? As a Fujianese, I can say that culturally speaking the difference between Fujian and Guangdong is day and night. Hong Kong culturally speaking is more like Guangdong. Taiwan culturally speaking is more like Xiamen. Any attempt to say one place is more Chinese than other place is just absurd to begin with. Both Hong Kong and Shanghai are international city. That's why you would feel it is much more modernized and sophisticated and westernized unlike Taipei which is no better than 3 tier cities in China.

Do you know how many Hong Kongers have families in China? Do you know how many Hong Kongers would retire and live in Guanddong and Fujian. Do you know that more Hong Kongers married mainlanders than Taiwanese married mainlanders? Do you know how much Hong Kongers invest in China? The ties between Hong Kong and China are much stronger than the ties between Taiwan and China. But such ties didn't stop the riots in HK. Such ties didn't prevent HK to descend into chaos.

If fear can prevent craziness, then Ukrainians wouldn't have been fighting the Russians right now. If fear can create rationality, then Hong Kongers wouldn't riot and try to overthrow the Hong Kong government.

You stressed about ties. I am telling you Hong Kongers have been donating money to China even when they don't want to be handover to mainland China and when they have disagreement with mainland Chinese. Ties and bond mean you are helping each others in time of needs. Mainland China is willing to help Hong Kong and Taiwan but Taiwan never is willing to help out China. Taiwanese talk about brother and bond with mainland Chinese when doing business and being friendly. But the truth is they bow to Japan and the US. Donate money to Japan. Arresting Chinese fisherman but failed to protect its own fishermen from being arrested by Japanese. I blamed CCTV for not exposing what Taiwanese truly feel about China and Chinese.

This whole Ukraine thing is a good lesson to the advocate of "China should have a NATO style alliance system."
  • The US certainly gained in such alliance by sacrificing and taking hostage of "old Europe".
  • "old Europe" is the looser forced to do things against its interest.
  • The US win won't last for long because the "sacrificed" "old Europe" will want even more to leave the alliance.
The alliance is there just because the strong one is able to force other members hand. By doing so it plants the seed for breakup. Essentially, if one is strong one don't need a piece paper to have ones way. When one becomes weak, that paper won't keep people together.
When NATO was formed the eastern block had overwhelming numeral military superiority over the west. It made sense to pool together military as much as possible as all of western Europe would be under threat. Hence during the cold war it worked well.

That's no longer the case, America alone can overwhelm Russia with or without NATO. Furthermore, Russia longer wants to turn all of Europe communist, at most they may invade a few neighbouring countries with ethnic Russian populations. NATO now seems to be about American imperialism abroad, and countries like France and Germany are unhappy with committing to unpopular American wars.

If China makes an alliance it should only exist for as long as it needs to, to defeat America. If you start adding new missions to that then you are bound to start getting dissent.

Fakers fake.

The original story was in Russian, posted on Russian social median VK and Telegram on Feb 21. It is about a father in Gorlovka, Donetsk who was kissing his daughter goodbye. His family was being evacuated to safe place in Russia. He left behind to fight against the Ukrainians. It didn't gain attraction until Feb 25.

This fraud stole the video, turned the story completely around and posted in on Twitter on Feb 25:

The west MSM all went nuts about it:

Now they have removed their "tear and heart breaking" bullcraps and gone silent, pretending the embarrassment never happened.

Meanwhile these liers with even thicker skins are still showing the fake story as of this writing:
