Not just the sanctions. There is a strong possibility that Ukraine will turn into a quagmire for Russia.

Doubt it. Ukraine doesn't have the geography of Afghanistan. If Russia doesn't have even the strength to crush Ukraine in a conventional war then they might as well pack up their toys and return to Moscow

I think Russia will leave Poland alone for now.
What Russia wants is a buffer zone. Poland is already a part of NATO with actual American forces stationed there. (not that the Americans will stay for a fight)
If NATO wants to be extra safe, they can deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Poland.
That is the right thing to do, run. No point to get killed for nothing.
