Future Cruise And Anti-Ship Weapon FC/ASW Program Reaches New Milestone
The head of the French DGA, his British DE&S counterpart and the CEO of MBDA signed a bilateral agreement and contracts for the continued preparatory work for the Future Cruise and Anti-Ship Weapon (FC/ASW) Programme. The kick-off meeting was held on 17th February 2022.

The objective of the FC/ASW Programme is to replace from 2028, the capabilities currently in service within the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force (RAF), Marine Nationale (French Navy), and Armée de l’air et de l’espace (French Air Force) for anti-ship and deep strike missions.

Preparatory work has been underway since 2017 culminating in two weapon concepts. With these new contracts, MBDA, the European missile company, and its industrial partners from the two countries, will continue to work on the definition of two missile designs and will assess their performance to counter future threats and to deliver operational advantage through long-range strike.

The UK arm of Lockheed-Martin has signed an agreement with Hanwha Defense to start the domestic production of the “K9A2 Self-Propelled Gun” system for the “Mobile Fire Platform” program in accordance with the UK MoD acquisition requirements.

“We’re delighted to be working with Lockheed Martin UK as part of Team Thunder. Globally, Lockheed Martin is the world’s biggest aerospace, space and defence company. As part of its UK operations, the company’s Ampthill site in Bedfordshire is home to the country’s most advanced digital manufacturing facility in the defence sector,” said Executive Vice President Mr. Kim Dae-young, Head of Hanwha Defense’s Overseas Business Centre. “I’m sure Team Thunder will be a key pillar of Hanwha Defense’s bid for the MFP program.”

This will be the ninth country to acquire the K9A2 SPG system and marks a major departure from previously domestically developed artillery systems in service within the British Army.

Excellent. Now they need to bin Chally 3 and buy a licence to produce the K2 and whatever the RoK tracked IFV is.

British military is so integrated with US military that choosing Abrams would be better option.
Old design though. I read somewhere you could meet the same requirements as M1 at 20% less weight using modern technology. Abrams, especially the latest versions with all the upgrades, is very heavy which causes manouverability and logistics problems.

True, that's why Oz bought it. They can ship out the troops only and pick up the tanks from US pre-positioned stocks if required. But I think UK could do a deal with RoK which is beneficial to both. UK buys RoK armor and in return RoK buys UK tech for its fighter and CV programmes.

Well let's see how utter a pile of overpriced tripe Chally 3 turns out to be with its big new turret and gun but still only 1200hp engine. Hopefully not as big a pile of tripe as Ajax. Still, 148 of them will put the fear of God into...er...nobody:

Seems like kind of a waste to me. Switching from 120mm rifled to 120mm NATO. Means you need to switch all your ammo.
The 120mm NATO will not be able to frontally penetrate T-14 armor. So they would have been better off switching to whatever will replace 120mm NATO and skip it.
