I don't think any country should get a pass, big or small. I do have problems with a small island country with a history of genocide being an appropriate arbitor of peace anywhere.
Not sure we're arbitrating anything, we've been invited pretty much wherever we've gone including by several South East Asian states.
I also don't think its a big deal if China "controls" the south CHINA sea - the clue is in the name.
The name of the sea does not denote ownership. Ireland does not own the Irish Sea, nor does Japan own the Sea of Japan.
Obviously there will need to be negotiations between the likes of Indonesia, Phillipines and China but US/UK warmongering is exacerbating the situation on purpose.
Those invitations really are confusing. Next time we're asked to go somewhere, should we accuse the potential host of lying?
It was enough for the French to go for their own delivery systems.
Except that France has never partnered with the US on nuclear weapon technology, largely due to De Gaulle's foreign policy and withdrawal from NATO. They've never been as close with the Americans as we have.

Well? The west does it all the time! It's perfectly normal, but it is the west that's always doing the screaming.

I'm a Brit too, and this is just embarrassing. Literally no one is impressed by this childishness, just as no one is impressed by the absurdity of a 70,000 glorified helicopter carrier relying on American escorts and aircraft to show the Chinese how impressive Britain is. The real tragedy is the UK actually could be a very influential and useful team player in East Asia right now, but has completely squandered that opportunity through quite spectacular displays of hubris and delusions of grandeur.

As a fellow Briton I can only agree. Delusion and cognitive dissonance have been key features of UK foreign and military policy since at least 1956, however.

Rule Britannia syndrome? Second most powerful carrier force?

Headline from UKdj:

British aircraft carriers HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth are both at sea with British F-35 jets onboard, this marks the return of Britain having the second most powerful carrier force on Earth.
