The UK lead tempest fighter program taking shape as Sweden joins the program as a partner. BAE Systems remains the prime contractor followed by Rolls-Royce, Leonardo UK arm, Saab Defense and MBDA UK arm joins the program. Tempest would be another icon like Spitfire.

Backronym. An Acronym is where you take what it’s called and break it down into a word by accident. The Military often uses Backronyms where they choose the word then tailor the long naming to match it.

Our vision is for these ships to form part of 2 Littoral Strike Groups complete with escorts, support vessels and helicopters. One would be based East of Suez in the Indo-Pacific and one based West of Suez in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Baltic.

The UK Ministry of Defence today formally awarded Babcock International Group PLC the contract for the Royal Navy's future Type 31e Frigates.

The Type 31 general-purpose frigate programme will provide the UK with a fleet of five ships, at an average production cost of £250 million per ship. The overal program cost is set to be £2 billion (£1.25 billion value to prime contractor Babcock).
