Rio de Janeiro/Foch 1600 t, about 300 t

Nimitz/Ford 9000 t, 3000 t + fuel usable for escort ?
For comparison : Enterprise : 8500 + 2500 ; Kitty hawk 5900 + 1200

Kuznetsov Liaoning also ofc 2500 t fuel av, for ammos i get minimum about 250 t ?

The USMC is now officially expected to be part of the air wing on the first operational deployment of HMS Queen Elizabeth, expected in 2021, as announced by secretary of state for defence Fallon. Their F-35Bs and MV-22 will complement the british elements of the air wing.

USMC allow QE get a Sqn in 2021 when is in service, presumably 12 F-35B deployed on 16 but have a limited number up to 2026 with this year possible 24 F-35B embarked.
Possible up to 36 with less helos.

42 F-35B should be in british hands by the end of 2023, including 24 in two frontline squadrons

In more OCU the 1st sqn with presumably about 18 same number than now for Typhoon and Tornado OCUs

48 ordered + after normaly 90

the second pair of F-35B squadrons planned are the obvious replacement of the two Tranche 1 squadrons.

After the 42 or 48 first, 2 others Sqns and presumably later F-35A more cheaper and not usefull have only F-35B ofc.
Remain curious retired for about 2025 Typhoon Tr 1 which have only 20 years !!!

Replace LHD Ocean amphibious capacity 800 troops, 18 helos with QE modified but after refit can host 500 troops so a capacity more low and necessary the 2nd Albion is completely in service right now 1/2 in reserve.

We need also going for Navy helo fleet :

The Royal Navy wants the carrier air wing to include a 9-helos ASW squadron and a 4/5 helos strong AEW force. To achieve that, it is planning to restructure the Merlin force over the next two years:
820 NAS will become a permanently carrier-roled ASW squadron.
814 NAS and 829 NAS will be merged together to provide Small Ship Flights for the Type 23 frigates; a flight at high readiness for the Fleet Ready Escort / Towed Array Patrol Ship and a few extra flights for reinforcement of the carriers.
849 NAS will continue being the AEW squadron, moving from Sea King ASaC Mk7 to Merlin HM2.
824 NAS will be the training unit.

Yet interesting seems Type 23 more oriented for ASW especialy 8 on 13 with a better sonar use in priority Merlin and in this case Type 45 use Wildcat.

Sadly they have in more HM2, 8 HM1 but seems no modernised very young perfectly able to be modernized in AEW helos !

We can consider CV + 1 Type 45 + 1 Type 23/26 + 1 repl ship + 1 SSN in peace time reinforced for War Time with 1 or 2 main combattants.

Seems like this slide shows a fill air wing on deck consisting of:

24 x F-35B
11 x Merlin
3 x V-22 Opsrey



Then this slide seems to indicate that the UK will depend on its United States Marine Corps brothers to give air power to the carrier from 2017 through 2019, bth performing exercises and training UK pilots, and that only then will the IOC UK aircraft be embarked for actual missions.

A bit curious possible one other futur CAW with new MV-22.

In amphibious configuration i think we can imagine :

1 Sqn with 7 Merlin HC-3 exist two
4 RM Wildcat AH1 Atk they have 5
Always 9 Merlin ASW or less replaced by Chinook but take more space and less.
Possible 2 Merlin AEW
Saying a total of 22 helos

Army saying
8 AH-64

RAF saying
6 - 8 CH-47
I don' t think possible Puma HC-2 navalized

A total of 36 - 38 helos for a war time configuration, peace time considered 1/3 in less, i think is reasonnable.

I think they would probably carry 6-8 F-35Bs even in the amphibious configuration to help support the troops, like the US does with its LHDs and LHAs.

you may note "Embarked Force" (in middle-top); I've read about the plan for two Companies (of Royal Marines, I suppose) plus helicopters' support in "amphibious configuration" ... are they serious?

it is convoluted thinking trying to make one ship do everything so they can justify cutting their military spending and therefore promise more social spending.

But these two wonderful carriers should be just that...aircraft carriers.

They should not bastardize them into LHDs or LHAs.

They should either extend the life of the Ocean, or build a replacement for her.

They need both carriers so they can have one available at all times and not run into the problems the French are already experiencing.
