Bush's Alternative nation plan could curb the amount of oil they need from venezuela. Or if they start drilling in Alaska. Venezuela will have no problems, Russia and China can definitely supply Venezuela with what they need. But an arms embargo on Chavez, ******As Golly said we are watching this thread. no political comments and no country bashing of any sort.*********

in practicality, not really that big of a deal since the US government is already blocking arms deals that involve American components to Venezuela. In the end of the day, Bush and the American government is tired of constantly being verbally assaulted by Chavez. This seems to be a statement that "we will not tolerate this anymore". Of course, Chavez's claim of selling f-16s to Iranians is just another attempt to aggitate American government.

apologize to other moderators if this was political.

What the heck would the Iranians do with them anyway!? The USAF doesn't use the Block 15 anymore. If you ask me, Chavez is definitely going for the Su-35. That's what the paper said, so I'm going with that.

Steelbird, Could we get a translation of that article? Thank you!

Popoye, Here goes the translation:

May 18, according to a Russian report Chavez who is visiting Lybia said to a National TV: "We no longer need US weapons".

Chavez also said that the first lot of Russian helecopter and 30,000 sets of AK-103 have arrived in Velnezuala. Currently Velnezuala is considering buying jet fighters from Russia.

According to news, Velnezuala signed a contract with Russia for 100,000 set of AK-103 and 33 helecopters. The first batch of 3 helecopters have been delivered to Velnezualan Army in April this year.

Chavez said that buying weapons from other countries can break away from US's tie on economy and military.

Beside Chavez also said that US's arm embargo is to force Velnezuala disarmed to get control over oil resource.

Thanks alot steelbird.

I figured that Chavez was juts spouting his usual retoric. Nothing new. He certianly is welcomed to buy arms from whatever country he wants. It's his country and money.

I remember hearing once about how Chavez had a special bullet-proof cactus-fabric shirt for when he goes out with the people, and how he was insisting the U.S was trying to assassinate him. That is pretty much all I know about the guy, other than the other basics.

Anyone know what the Helicopters were?

That sounds pretty paranoid. The U.S. might be ticked off with France, but they're not going to assainate Jaques Shriaqe. Sorry Mods, I did not mean that as a political statement, I will not encourage a political debate.
Anyway heres some confirmation on Chavez's new arms supplier - and its Russia. According to the article, the replacement for the F-16s is going to be a Sukhoi, but it does not reveal the make. But Chavez does say that it will be better than the F-16, but that might be just his regular anti-american rants.
