The 2nd Type 055 series, "Lhasa" (??), left the Changxing Jiangnan shipyard in Shanghai to join its unit located in northern China.
It is expected to enter service before the end of the year.

1.) So both operational 055s will be with the Northern Fleet (Northern Theater Command) in order to protect the two carriers?

2.) Does naming the ship "Lhasa" have anything to do with sending a message to the Tibetan Government in Exile and its supporters in India and the West?

By even asking that question, you are implying that perhaps Lhasa should be treated differently to any other administrative/provincial level capital which destroyers in the PLAN are named after..

Both Xinjiang (Type 52D 118 Urumqi) and Inner Mongolia (Type 52D 161 Holhot) already have their capital city named for an PLAN destroyer. So it is about time for Xizang.

I understand subtext and I'm sure you and Josh Luo do as well.

I understand how "innocent" his question was, asked in a manner that if not redirected, would have a high chance of becoming a discussion if not an argument over the political status of Tibet in a thread about 055.

My reply was made in a manner to avoid using moderator status to warn him against flame baiting and to urge others to avoid taking the bait, but seeing as you've replied, let me be clear that this is one of the more flagship threads of the Navy sub forum and we're not going to tolerate those sort of political off topic discussions here.
