French Navy commander visited his Turkish counterpart:

They're all smiles now. Some years ago they were practically at each others throat. The fickleness of geopolitics.

Context is essential here. Europe is rearming itself, but they lack the experience and scale when it comes to some key technologies (drones for example). I think this rapprochement serves as a means to get those technologies. The moment Europeans determine they no longer need Turkish tech, they'll probably turn on them again. Turkiye needs to stay at the top of its game in the miltary field to avoid getting picked on later. With the progress they've been making lately, so far so good.

Europans commit themselves when Greece and Crypus were accepted as full members but not us. It will be a mistake to be involved in defense of Europe, if we can not have a vote in decisions taken. Moreover this defense surge looks like a white elephant for newly acquitted members of EU and NATO. Nobody will harm if they continue to acknowledge current treaties and behave decently. Bulgaria is a perfect example. They got rid of most of the expensive to maintain parts of their military while keeping a strong defensive militia force. Funds saved went to improving infrastructure, education and improving industry. They are better than us now.

KAAN is cheaper?
It has real IWB, at least promised. Without it KF-21 is just a RCS optimized F-18 or Eurofighter. IMO, implementing an IWB is the most chanllenging work in a true stealthy fighter. Russia is known to have faced challenges in Su-57, I am sure it took China and US a lot time as well. That is why Korea choose to split the job in two steps, semi-burried weapon attachment then IWB. Turkey choose to go straight to IWB. I don't think Indonesia is abandonning KF-21 because it is a safer bet and good enough to match most neighbours. KAAN would be a long term bet. I also think that Indonesia will only go serious like investing big money after KAAN has demonstrated the capability of shooting missiles from IWB in high speed.

Europe's rearmament really only matters when it comes to a few major states: France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain + the UK, the latter being outside the EU.
