MoD Yasar Güler:

''Türkiye can no longer fit into its container. One end is in Somalia, one end is in Bosnia, one end is in Azerbaijan, and the other end is in Central Asia... Turkey is now in these geographies. Therefore, the Turkish Army needs everything.

We are building larger aircraft carriers. "We will also build a plane that takes off and lands vertically."

Nice :cool:
Maybe they could get their hands on some AV8B/harriers and doing something similar with up to date engine and airframe. Would work on Anadolu and they could test and train some pilots with the old airframes. They were looking for airframes before F-35 fiasco.

Seeing that the tweet is deleted because the quote wasn't entirely correct, the MoD said in relation to the interviewer saying that they have no acces to VTOL aircraft, specifically the F-35B, the MoD replied "we'll do it' twice:

That is $20 billion over the course of 22+ years. For convenience sake lets round it up to $1 billion per year of foreign acquisition which is mostly produced/modernized within the country using local personnel and materiel.
if it would've been 22x20 - it would have been something to work with at this scale of ambitions.
The problem is that it's just a meager (for the purpose) 20. It isn't that much, especially in an uninsulated economy.

"Üstüne dikine kalkıp inen uçak da yapacağız."
@sequ does it refer specifically to a manned jet?

But feels like a genuine wtf moment. Like finish at least one guys.

Calm down guys, I think he either exaggerated or meant VTOL rotary wing drones by that. Turkey neither has the need nor the resources for a dedicated VTOL fighter/LW drone

Kizilelma itself is a 6t MTOW aircraft that has almost the same wing area as the F-16, if they could increase the thrust by either changing the engine or the engine configuration; it could theoretically take off from Anadolu (though for landing it would need a tail hook, strengthened landing gears and maybe some internal improvements? never mind the stern elevator of the ship that'd need to be removed for this to happen)

"Our work on ALTAY continues. Only the work on the powerpack continues. There is no other problem. A total of 250 ALTAY units will be supplied. We will produce 85 of them with S.Korean and 165 with our own power group." — Yaşar Güler | Minister of National Defense

"Üstüne dikine kalkıp inen uçak da yapacağız."
"ustune" = "on top of it",
"dikine" = "vertically" -"kalkip" + inen"-- "that takes off + lands"-,
"ucak" = "plane",
"da" = "as well/too/in addition",
"yapacagiz" = "we'll do/make"

I think the point here is obvious, he doesn't mention whether it's manned/unmanned or if it's fixed/rotary wing.

Now fyi I haven't seen the interview, but here's what I think about his statement:

We held the 5th Turkey-Saudi Arabia-Pakistan Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting in Istanbul. In our bilateral and collective meetings; We touched upon important issues regarding our current and potential projects and held consultations on the defense industry with our Deputy Minister of National Defense, Mr. Bilal Durdalı, Deputy Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Talal Bin Abdullah Alotaibi, and Pakistan Chief of General Staff, Mr. Muhammed Avais Dastgir. I hope that the meetings will enable important cooperation in establishing peace and tranquility in our region and will be beneficial for all three countries.

Big trilateral cooking pot. I wonder what the outcome will be. Diversification of production capacity to SA and Pakistan plus financial investment from SA?

Look at the amount and diversity of Saudi officers present. They want a lot of things for all their branches it seems.

Fun fact, with a wing area of ~34 m2 (not official, guesstimated by me by adding 16% to the wing area of a Gripen B/D which has the same length as the Kizilelma but smaller wingspan (by 16%)), the Kizilelma will have a wingloading of mere ~180 kg/m2 at MTOW.
I wonder what the take-off/landing speed is...

Wing area of KE is 37.4 m2 calculated by using trapezoid surface area formula and known wingspan of 10m.

According to TAI latest edition (136) of its magazine:

“Following the maiden flight, progress on the P1 prototype is once again advancing with a sense of unity and solidarity, fueling our growing excitement. All teams are currently focused on the new prototype, scheduled to make its maiden flight in 2025 and to be included in the inventory of the Turkish Air Force Command by 2028. Alongside necessary preparations for the first flight, the production process of the P1 prototype is proceeding according to schedule. The new KAAN prototype, despite its challenging timeline, will be transferred to the hangar in 2024, placed on the landing gear the following year, and then take its inaugural flight.
Our company is set to produce a total of 29 KAAN prototypes, in addition to the aircraft scheduled for delivery to the Air Force Command by 2028. There are plans to simultaneously assemble two aircraft in the hangar. Additionally, our company is actively engaged in developing sixth-generation aircraft, which are still in the conceptual stage globally.”
