According to haberturk, Kaan FF delayed for a few months:

KAAN will not arrive on December 27, but it will be in the skies next year. Our country's national pride, our National Combat Aircraft Kaan, developed by TAI, successfully completed its first ground test over the weekend.

Kaan, which TAI General Manager Temel Kotil announced will rise to the sky on December 27, will most likely not make it to this date, but we will see our national fighter jet Kaan in the sky in February next year or March at the latest.

Really? Turkey does not need an aircraft carrier! That‘s a total waste of resources.
Although I agree with you on this, I reckon that they want the carrier for power projection around the Med., i.e. from Iberia to Somalia in a similar sense to why the Italians also have one

Every above average-tier power wants power projection capabilities these days. That's why the Koreans are bringing along carrier mockups to every defence exhibition they go to.

But I agree that the money would be better spent on investing in the long-awaited TF-2000 destroyers instead.

At the earliest, such a carrier would be put into service not earlier than 2035. By that time the Turkish economy should be more than large enough to sustain at least one such a carrier and its escorts.

AAOF, think it is currently financially feasible for Turkiye, looking at its economic size PPP wise ($3.6 trillion) vs UK's 2 carriers ($3.8 trillion).

As for its need, Turkiye has regional and international aspirations in Africa, Europe and Asia.

According to a military expert, the Siper hit a target drone at 170km range during one of its tests. He didn't specify which version though but most probably the Block-2 variant.

IMO, with such a range and 30km engagement altitude, it should have ABM capability against TBM and SRBM. Radar has a range of 600km likely referring to the ERALP (derivative) radar. Specs can be found here:

All of this has contributed to Turkiye not to go for another batch of S-400 (IIRC the first batch contained 1 battalion, 2 batteries).

He also said that Tayfun BM has a range of 1000km.

No indications so far of taxi or aborted take-off tests of the Kaan, with only 8 days to go till its scheduled first flight.

Hope everything is ok and we do see it taking off before the end of the year.

But in the end, a couple weeks or months of delay shouldn't be a problem.

Are you going to contradict the MoD themselves? It was merely a week ago when they last confirmed the date once again, don't you think we should take their words since they're the professionals in charge and are not simply some forum-dwelling amateurs?

I hate to break it to you but Haberturk is the opposite of trustworthy hence is not to be taken seriously. It is not a coincidence that nobody besides them have said nothing of that sort, which would've been huge news if true.

It was a month ago when it was confirmed by Temel Kotil that everything was ready for the FF and that all the necessary subcomponents have been integrated into the prototype.

It has been 3-4 months since the last time we've had an update regarding Kizilelma. Does this mean that the project is dead? No. It means that after much publicity they're taking their time to focus on maturing the aircraft in a proper environment.

And silence is good, it means they're focusing on making progress instead of PR. Every progress the defence industry has so far ever done was made in silence and came out of nowhere. Remember the roll-out of MMU/Kaan, we had waited for weeks; remember the FF of Kizilelma, it took us a a month to get some sort of a conformation of these.

Whenever they over-publicize an event or a delivery, it always gets postponed, i.e. I-class, Siper SAM, Hürjet, Altay, etc... the industry's history is full of these. Therefore it is good that they took their time and worked out the kinks in silence.

And mind you that the MoD have always been the more pragmatic ones, preparing for the worst possibilities. You would've known that had you observed Turkish defence matters for a long while.
