Navalized version of GOKBEY utility helicopter to emerge in 2026
TAI Helicopter Department VP Mehmet Demiroğlu during an interview with Defence Turk announced that naval variants of GOKBEY, ATAK 2 and T925 (10 ton Class Utility Helicopter) are being developed for use onboard TCG ANADOLU and other naval platforms:
“For ANADOLU and other platforms, we will be working on GOKBEY, 10 ton Class Utility Helicopter and ATAK 2’s navalized versions. It isn’t easy to navalize a helicopter’s design of course. Making rotors and the tail foldable requires serious changes on the design. We will start with designing helicopters for services such as Directorate General of Forestry and Land Forces and add the afformentioned features. We predict that a navalized GOKBEY will come out with 10 ton Class Utility Helicopter to follow.
We will be working on the studies regarding design changes to be made in second phases of our projects. Pre-developmental studies of said changes on the designs will shorten development phases from 4 years to about 1-2 years.”
"Let me tell you what I heard about TAI CEO Temel Kotil.
A team from one of the British consulting companies had come to TAI for a consulting meeting (not BAE Systems). Temel, when he saw that the team was acting in a very arrogant manner and looking from above, he asked for the models of all the products whose project was ongoing to be brought to his room. He had the models lined up on the table in his room. He briefly told the British, "There is hardly any in the world, except TUSAŞ, the aviation company that carries out so many platform projects at once. I offer you the opportunity to work with us."
We have seen the result of the Turkish self-confidence in blood today."
"A contract worth 208 million dollars was signed with TAI for 10 helicopters that will be produced by converting domestic and national Atak-2 helicopters and have a water throwing capacity of 4 tons."
Are they going to use an attack helicopter to fight fire???
