Awwww, this is his version of telling China to read between the lines; he can't say it in a more obvious way because he doesn't want to be lynched by a redneck crowd descending on the white house (again) but anyone with an IQ that is within 2 standard deviations of the norm can see that he wants to make a deal badly so he's asking China to please call him. This is already pathetic backtracking! Just 2 days ago, he said there would be no talks with China unless China drops the 34% tariffs! What, now talking's free?? What about Vietnam? They offered to suck every homeless dick in Detroit just to talk and Ron Vara says that's not enough??
Exactly, that is what I keep on saying, Xi with the same counter tariff of 34% has boxed in mister Trump.
During Trump 1.0 he raised tariffs against China.
What happened next was the supply chains branched out from China but China was still the center of it, so Trump 1.0 actually allowed China to be more economically powerful.
Vietnam took full advantage of that situation, as orders were rerouted through them.
Now with Trump 2.0 he raises tariffs on everyone but China gets slapped with a larger rate. This situation is no different than Trump 1.0 and the reason for this round of tariffs in Trump 2.0 is that they were unsatisfied with the results of Trump 1.0.
David Goldman of AsiaTimes.com been saying for years that America imports capital goods from China, and capital goods are goods that make other goods. Therefore, any re-industrialization in America, will cost a lot more now.
So the results of Trump 2.0 tariffs seem to be rather clear.
1. re-industrialization of America will cost more, if it actually happens, and if it does happen those products would be uncompetitive outside in world market
2. inflation and slower growth are the short term result
3. China's economy is expected to grow slightly slower, but the government CCP saved its ammo so they got a lot of fiscal or monetary levers they can pull
4. the world supply chain will still be centered in China for years and years to come
The Trump 2.0 tariffs did not change anything important, we have teh same situation from Trump 1.0 just more tariffs.
Some changes would be more inflation in the US and other countries kissing Trump's ass making a new highlight in world politics.
Trump has to stop this silliness, otherwise he could cause financial crisis.
This trade war, Trump 2.0 has nothing to show for it, other than more inflation and lipstick on his ass.
That is why the Chinese do not want to talk. What for?
He played, he did not exactly win. There is nothing else.
