Remember that even western Otakus aren't a fan of pedophilia whereas in Japan the entire Otaku industy it is considered art. The Japanese anime industry relies on hentai as artists literally need to draw hentai in order to make money.

Right now the highest rated anime that's airing right now on MAL is Kingdom (6th season). The setting is about the Warring States in China and this season focuses on Qin invading the West Part of Zhao. The arc was written 5 years ago.

So even when it comes to anime, Japan has kinda fallen off compared to its prime. It can't generate the same number of good ideas as before

I mean dragon ball which is one of most legendary anime’s in history was literally a retelling Sun wukong’s journey and the mangaka was a sinophile but you are right since even the western otakus are me ming on Japanese animators being worked to death.
